    Cheap first timer bike

This is for my brother, he just moved back to RI, looking to get on two wheels. He's only got around $600 to spend, so realistically he's not expecting much... Some service needing to be done to the bike would be fine, we could do that, but if there's much in the way of parts that need to be replaced that would be a no-go.

Here are a few I found with a quick craigslist search. Some are above the $600 number but shooting an offer never hurt. Can't go wrong with an 80's big four standard for reliability and affordability.

i just picked up a mint 81 xj650 for $400 that im cutting up for a bobber project so they are out there. i found plenty of the xj and some cb's thatll fit the bill. Not sporty but itll get you riding. If you find an xj needing parts ive got plenty.

Get an EX500. Light, quick, cheap, durable. Oh, and very cool.

Youd be hard pressed to find one for 600 in any sort of riding shape. Granted you can go way back to 87 and they are essentially the same bike but the cheap ones never run. A few on cl now if your looking for a project but theyve been on it for a very, very long time.
