Don't want to go over $1200.
use mainly for gaming and video editing
Do you suggest a better one for the $1200 price limit?
thanks
Why no Asus? Acer makes shitty computers, but Asus is supposed to be pretty decent quality (no first hand experience).
Based on specs alone I would go with the HP (better sound components, everything else is pretty much a tie), but I've seen a few HP laptops fail due to heat, so do whatever you can do to keep it cool.

Asus also comes with a 2 year parts n labor warranty, HP only has one year.
they make great motherboards, but their not a PC manufacturer. that's like saying Sony is a good name brand, but i'd never buy a Sony computer.
i've been ordering HP's for work for the past 3 years. we've been using the 6730b models for about 2 years now & they're pretty solid. if the warranty is a concern, then get the extended 3 year warranty. i have put claims in for mine here, and it's typically a hard drive that goes. they use shitty hitachi hard drives. i've had 1 issue with a NIC go bad, but that was within the 1 year warranty.
I'd buy Asus over HP any day. Most of the HP stuff I've dealt with has been crap.
As a side note, we have a lot of Acer machines here at work and they have all been fantastic too.
I really really hate saying this... If your gonna do mostly video editing then you'll want a mac... If your gonna play games at all, dont get one.
Look at dell warehouse. They sell refurbished computers for a great price with a good waranty. Look into a XPS. But ask yourself this. How often will your gaming/editing machine travel with you? If it's not often, get a desktop. I personally built:
3 GHz E8400 Dual Core (OC'ed to 4GHz stable)
4 gig 1066mhz ram
Asus 4850
Asus p5q pro mobo
For less than half the price of that, and i have a DVD burrner and DVD ROM drive. Desktops FTW!!![]()

HP doesn't make any of their own stuff, it is all contract manufactured by Taiwanese companies like Quanta; same as Dell, Lenovo, Acer, Apple and so on. There is nothing "better" or "worse" about any of these computers because in many cases they came from the same factory. Asus is kind of a hybrid and does make a lot of its own stuff, which is high quality in most cases.
Buy based on the features you want, at the price point you are willing to pay, and a warranty you can live with. Of the two you linked, the HP seems to have some superior specs.

More or less the same specs except it has the newer Core i7 cpu, for less $$$...

Best damn laptop I ever owned was a Dell Inspiron E1705. High end specs, midrange price, extremely well ventilated chassis, it was a monster for about $1200 at the time. Unfortunately the design is now 4 years old, but it's still chugging with all the original equipment, having been to California, Iraq, Florida and now back to Vermont in the hands of my sister.
So obviously, I recommend a Dell laptop that has a lot of vents.

Does it need to be a laptop cause you can get some crazy desktops for $1200

I've had several HP laptops. I retired them 'cause they were old and slow. I would get the business line of HP laptops.
