So I have my LTC ( license to carry ) thing tomorrow. Just wondering what I can expect to be asked and stuff like that. Thanx

They will ask why you want it and what you intend on doing with it. Dont say "self defense". Say you want the ALP version (all lawful purposes) which is non-restricted. Make sure you also go for the Class A version.
Say you want it for target practice. They should give you no issues at all.
Also tell them you have a safe already to secure whatever you might buy. That will make the officer happy to hear. Good luck!
go to northeastshooters.com and check the database to see if your town is a "green" town. If it is then you will have no problem getting a class A unrestricted.
Just want to add to this part. I was told was that you don't want to give only 1 or 2 specific uses (tgt practice, hunting, etc...). In MA they will use this as restrictions on your license. So I'd start w/ what LX said about requesting "unrestricted". If they press you, answer with the reasons why you want unrestricted instead of saying 1 specific reason.
I'd wouldn't dwell on things like self-defense in MA. I like LX's suggestion of enforcing safety and your gun awareness as reasons.
You absolutely do NOT want to do this unless you would like to possibly receive a "target and sport" restriction.
Yes, this. Although many green towns now require letters to the chief and interviews, which is indicative of denial potential.
They mostly want to ensure you're not a trigger happy wacko and are able to present yourself maturely and have a level head.

Make sure you have at least one good reference that is either very well known in the town, or holds some sort of powerful public position. I attached a friends business card to the application and after one look at that there were no questions asked.
You Sir know nothing of true greatness. I of course refer to ones ability to steal, drink and generally do nothing, and carry it off with style
I didn't read the entire thing but...

I just went in and sat down with the guy, it was very casual surprisingly. He didn't ask me a single thing. I had already filled out the application so he just started entering it in and told me that my record was clean and I'd see it in a few weeks. Obviously every town is different and I have heard a few nightmare stories but it's nothing to be worried about if your record is clean. I went in expecting to get grilled but it was the exact opposite.
Never was asked why I wanted it lol. Went in the officer said "oh good your going for class A that's all ill give out" took my prints and 4 weeks later I had my class A ALP

I race to win, and if you no longer go for a gap that exists, you're no longer a racing driver."

First thing all of you should do is join GOAL.

northeastshooters is a great forum with a ton of info ....like someone else mentioned here all towns are different ...my town was a 5min interview with somelady while she took my prints asked me some questions i even gave a wrong answer and she helped and said no we cant put that down lol
Any chance they will ask me questions from the safety course? I took it over a year ago...

Usually not, i got mine 10yrs ago and 1st they said (not interviewer)that usually you get an FID card 1st then after it expires with 0 probs, you get a class A...I have a F inlaw and Bro inlaw that are detectives in my Town so i had a little push for a Class A All Lawful purpose the 1st time. Then mail a copy of both sides to NH and 25 bucks to get that one. I frequent four seasons firearms on Winn st in woburn..
^ 100 now for the non resident NH one. Also it varies by town since MA has the Discretion BS so everyones experience will be different. Him saying that you need an FID first is a perfect example of this.
Only AFTER you join GOAl.
Ask Derek Hoskins, the NES owner, and I bet he'll tell you the same thing. And while NES has some great folks and great info, they also have a bunch of chronic complainers - sometimes I think MA should be called "The Whiner State." You have to be really, really careful about the information received there.
Despite the fact that MA has so many gun laws already, the Governor and other liberal representatives have filed even more legislation that will further abrogate your RKBA.
I can't emphasize enough how critical it is for lawful gun owners to speak up, to their own representative and through GOAL, who will help you navigate the licensing process and advocates for gun owners state wide. I've seen Jim Wallace in action and he is quite effective.

Your not likely to be asked questions about the courses, because lots of the police officers who give the test don't know the rules and regulations anyway...
Those that do appreciate the right you have to bear arms and won't trouble you. Goodluck, and enjoy your license
NRA iss also a good club to throw your support behind. The more lax gun owners get, the less lax the laws that govern us will be.
Have your first gun picked out?!![]()
