For the gun owners out there:
I've got my interview for my LTC tomorrow afternoon. I'd really like to convince them to give me a Class A. I live in Boston, so I know this is next to impossible, but any tips? In general?
Don't really know what to expect, but I usually interview pretty well. I'm not psychotic & I'm hoping that working next door to the Pine St Inn & handling cash during early morning hours after gigs with my band can tip the scale in my favor. Or maybe thinking that makes me psychotic. Who knows.
What? You want to carry into a bar??
I guess not, but I'd probably have it in my glove outside. Maybe I won't bring that up then, but it is a cash business.

Yup you're on the road to not getting a class A.
Agreed. First if you mention alcohol or even bar that is a strike. 2nd you cannot have it locked in your glovebox. You must have it on you at all times. Actually had an officer friend of mine tell me that when he saw me removing it from my glovebox one night at the range.
Basic line to say to the interviewing officer when they ask why you want to have a class a..... "All lawful purposes"

Let's forget about the bar thing....was hanging with my cousin from NC this weekend & they can do that there. Most gun owners I know don't live in MA.
That's wild about the glovebox thing...really thought that was an option. We didn't go over those details at the class I took. Just that class B meant gun and ammo stored in two seperate locations.
My bud could have been yanking my crank when he said that, but he does have a point. If it is locked in there it will do you no good for when you actually may need it. Plus god forbid your car gets stolen along with your firearm..... bye bye LTCA for that one.

See this is why asking questions is important...
I wonder, is a tank bag legit? I would think it would be, but now maybe not.
It has to be on your person so it can not be separated from you.
No bars, no schools, no federal buildings, etc.
Get your private investigator's license, then you have a chance in Boston.

49 states do it one way, and Massachusetts does it their own way.
some misleading info in this thread. in MA:
- it's legal to carry a firearm in a place that primarily serves alcohol (bar, club, etc). this doesn't mean that management can't impose restrictions on carrying firearms as they see fit.
- it's legal to carry a loaded or unloaded firearm in a glove box or center console as long as it is under the immediate control (generally described as within reach) of a valid MA LTC-A holder. i imagine this would apply to a tank bag on a bike.
- it's legal to store a firearm in a vehicle as long as it is in a "locked container" or rendered inoperable by a trigger/cable/whatever lock. while there is case law affirming that a locked vehicle alone is not a "locked container" for the purposes of 140/131L, there is no legislation or case law for or against a locked glove box being sufficient - meaning it's not "illegal" per se. my most recent law update covered a case (Comm vs Reyes) that involved storage in a glove box, but the court declined to rule for or against it being suitable to meet 140/131L.

You can carry in a bar as often and much as you want... Also all the signage in MA (simons malls etc) is not legally binding. If for some reason they find out you are carrying (they shouldn't) they ask you to leave the property. If you don't then there becomes an issue since you are now trespassing.

Just tell him you want it for sideways shootin....ya know, gangsta style..
Or, move to a 'blue' town.
Edited: better yet, and in all seriousness, goto www.northeastshooters.com and read up there as to what tp say and do. Theres a lot of lawyers there who like to help.
And as a side note, my interviewer said he wouldnt accept 'for all lawful purposes' he wanted more explination...just another control freak. But hey, I got the class A....

Waddled into a conversation like this just yesterday @ work. The bottom line is NEShooters is a far more comprehensive source of help than either my coworkers will find bs'ing around the cafe tables.. or you will find on this site.
I second Johns suggestion; go to that site.
Nice, I'll check it out real quick. I got some initial good advice on guns from you folks, so figured I'd follow up when I got to the next step.
that did not work in my town.
Police: why do you want a class A.. US "for all lawful purposes" Police: no Really why??? We were really genuine about our situations and soon enough. Class A = check coming up on 3 weeks Sunday and the check has not been cashed. There were issues with the system and he was going to submit it the old fashioned way. I got Inked.

Currently under Menino they only allow unrestricted A LCF to lawyers, business owners, pharmacists etc. Oh, and victims of violent crimes.
But you can get a Class A, it will just have restrictions limiting carry to target and sporting use or something like that. I already had my license when I moved to Boston (renewed 3X) I suggest you call GOAL and ask for their advice. You have joined GOAL - right?
Some states (Texas for example) don't allow CCW in bars. MA is not one of those states. However some if not most CLEO's would consider drinking while CCW grounds for revoking the license. No one considers it a good idea.
NES has some great folks and some "frequent fliers" who seem to spend most of their day, every day, complaining about, well - what ya got?

“It's 2 minutes for any capable adult.”
Section 10H. Whoever, having in effect a license to carry firearms issued under section 131 or 131F of chapter 140, carries on his person, or has under his control in a vehicle, a loaded firearm, as defined in section 121 of said chapter 140, while under the influence of intoxicating liquor or marijuana, narcotic drugs, depressants or stimulant substances, all as defined in section 1 of chapter 94C, or the vapors of glue shall be punished by a fine of not more than $5,000 or by imprisonment in the house of correction for not more than two and one-half years, or by both such fine and imprisonment.
No drinking and carrying. It's a bad idea anyway let alone illegal.
There's a case right now in which a legal LTC holder put his firearm in the glove box and picked up a friend. Friend did not know about the firearm. They were stopped, firearm discovered and the LTC holder charged with illegal storage and the passenger with unlawful possession. It's better to be safe than sorry, if it's not on your person unload it and lock box it. There is ambiguity in the laws and no one wants to be the guinea pig for precedent.

I can resist everything but Pete's mom.
You can open carry and drink in NH.
