Think about it for a second, if your mailman/lady has 300 stops and has to go up 300 sets of ice covered steps, he/she is at 300% more risk of slipping and falling on ice. Trust me, the last thing the mailman/lady wants to do is lug your mail around for another day..but they have to considder their safty and the post office rules.
My mother is a mail carrier, she usually gets home nice and early after snowstorms because people don't clear a way to the mail box, so it cuts her stops in half.

my mail lady wont deliver the mail if she needs to get out of the truck to do it. If there is a car within 5 feet (so she could walk up to the box but not drive) she wont deliver. If I dont shovel the 1 foot of snow that separates my mailbox from the street she wont deliver either.

I understand it on some circumstances, but I cant help but feel that my mailperson is an overpaid gov't employee
