But Kurlon has three problems:
1) The only thing Kurlon has for barter material is a 2008 Pitster Pro X4 Motard, not cash.
2) Kurlon has used up all his storage spots, which means something's got to go for the YZ400F to have a home.
3) Kurlon randomly talks in the third person even when it's not appropriate.
Long story short, I found 1998 Yamaha YZ400F for sale, bone stock, in good condition down the road from me. I'm thinking this would make a great GP Mono starter. It's a lil heavy and slow compared to current 450s, but I'm a lil light compared to most LRRS participants so it evens out, right? I figure a GP conversion on it will let me dedicate the GS to PTwins, LW Sportsman, and rain, and the 400 can run GTL and motard, or nearly any other class in their lightest category.
The owner's looking for $1600. I don't need 3 pit bikes, both my 70s have jobs this winter, so the X4's got to go. The X4 is nearly bone stock, the only change I've made is swapping the stock aluminum axles out for steel units. This means the axle sliders aren't installed, on the other hand the steel axles won't waffle if you so much as look at a curb like the aluminum units. There is plenty of meat in the steel units to drill and tap them for the slides, I've not had the time to follow through on that yet. I've also got a smaller pilot jet to sharpen the low speed throttle response over the factory jetting that I need to install. The bike has a headlight and LED taillight, along with a backlit LCD speedo. The X4 cost me a little over $2k new with shipping, I'd like to be able to fund the Yamaha purchase entirely with the sale of the X4 if possible.
You now know my situation. If you wanna help, pm me an offer. If you've got questions, ask in the thread so others see the answers. If you're looking to do the typical NESR lowball routine, well, who the hell am I kidding, it's not like I can stop you. Just be aware I may send you a drawing of a spider in lieu of the bike if you go too low.

Nope, it's a 98 here in Maine that I'm considering. An 03 for $1600 would be great, but I don't know of any in the area at the moment. Of course it's all hypothetical if I don't sell the X4.
OK, I'll trade you the following for it:
3 sets of Michelin 120/180 take offs
My old A-Stars GP Pro gloves
[2] bags of ice screws
[1] Trek mountain bike frame
[1] 2004 CRF250X frame and swingarm
[1] Molly Hatchett "Flirting With Disaster" album
3 years worth of old Roadracing World magazines
[1] 13" tv with no remote
[1] VCR with my college roommate's porno stuck in it
I wanna see this spider thing...

I need to know which porno exactly is stuck in the VCR.
For whatever my opinion is worth, it seems silly to build one of these Formula Motard whatever bikes out of an outdated platform. if you're going to put the work in, get a 450 and do it proper.
It's even sillier considering it's likely SV650s will be moved to ULSB, but that doesn't change my interest in trying to engineer it. As far as getting a 450, I don't have the cash unless one shows up for what I can get out of my X4. If the X4 doesn't sell, no GP Mono attempt, if it does, I'll get what I can afford and make the best of it.
SV650's won't be in ULSB at LRRS, rest of CCS yes, LRRS no.
Boston --> San Diego
Dont get me wrong, I'm not knocking the idea. I think its pretty cool.
I'm just suggesting you look around a little more for a later model platform. By the time you get done building this rig, the extra couple hundred you might have to spend for a later model dirty bike is probably going to be just a drop in the bucket.![]()
Based on my reading, unless I wan to move to an aluminum framed YZ, the changes amongst the steel framed ones aren't that drastic as they evolved. And, this is an as deals and money allows project, if I'm going to hold off and try to get the ideal deal, it'll never happen.
Edit: To put it another way, I see what you're saying, and it make sense, but I'm on limited 'fun money' resources, and demand instant gratification. Look at the rest of my projects, do any of them scream "Patient and intelligent use of cash."
