Yeah. I used to ride there, but stopped going when the battle with the neighbor ignited. It looks like they are going to get some rights to ride back. But I worry about this at my local spots. This is why I use 3 different areas, and try to keep them more or less secret. I'm selfish.
Ice has been fucked up on our lake. Some areas it's 8-9", others can be as little as 2". I've drilled holes through 9" ice, then taken about 10 steps and almost lost my auger through the 3" ice. Super inconsistent for us this year.
Same happened on another local pond that's notorious for freezing early and freezing well. 10" where we were drilling holes, 2" about 10' from those. Fuckin' crazy this year.
Did you grit your teeth and try to look like Clint Fuckin' Eastwood?
Or did you lisp it all hangfisted like a fuckin' flower?
You can bet noise has A LOT to do with areas potentially getting shut down. Part of the reason we stopped doing it on my lake was because mumblings were beginning about the noise, and it made it back to me thankfully.
People who aren't into that sort of thing have ZERO tolerance for a bunch of motorcycles/ATV's with aftermarket exhausts ripping around just outside of their houses. *A LOT* of the times, people who ride really don't give two shits about the people that live there. I put the axe on our activities because I really don't need that kind of flack from our neighbors.

Our ponds are all open water currently. At one point there was about 2” of ice, then it melted. This year is a wash for ice for us, it’s not worth the chance on thin ice. I’ve heard a lot of reports from Maine and New Hampshire of people falling through the ice this year.

Nice to see the issues at Hoit getting a lot of coverage.
I personally am somewhat torn on how to handle this. I worry about pollution and noise.
But the act of sneaking this into a budget bill is just appalling. No public comment period. No discussion. Just use your contacts and influence to jamb something through. Even F&G had no idea this was coming.
That's just pure bullshit. MVTR and everyone else should be lobbying for a complete repeal. The legislative equivalent of a mistrial.
Yeah, it's always noise. We got yelled at by an ice fisherman last week. he said this was bullshit and illegal and he wants to fish. We said we could share and would only be there for another hour. He left saying he would call the cops. They never came. It is in fact legal to ride on ice in Mass with an OHV sticker almost anywhere. In fact it's shockingly legal.

What do you guys use for tubes in your ice setups?
When I picked up my tires last year, the guy said to run a bike tube because you'll never get a full size tube in there. Can't remember if that was just the rear or not. It's got the extra liner inside, so it would be tight.
I never mounted them last year, but plan to try over the next couple of days.
Also, do you typically need to add a link or two in the chain to get the clearance to the hoop/front of the swingarm?
Odd. I believe I have UHD tubes in mine. I only wanted to do that once.
I'd like to list my tires for sale unmounted as I think that'd open them up to a wider audience. But I am really dreading putting an iron to those setups.
Hmmm... So it sounds like I'm on both ends of the spectrum tube wise. Have any of you tried just a bike (like mtb) tube?
I guess as long as it holds air and fills the void, it wouldn't matter much. My concern might be chaffing etc, but it's not like it will have the abuse like on a trail.
