Re: Are You Still Commuting on Your Bike?
I don't commute, as my office is in my barn, Tomorrow, I have school to meet my professional CEU requirement. So a few minutes ago I rode down to the gas station so that I won't have to in the morning.
At the gas station, I go inside, hand the cashier $20 and say "twenty on pump 2" then go back out and fill up, only took 3 gallons. then I went back in for my change. The cashier looks at me and sez "is something wrong", Me "no, I just want my change" she sez "you only gave me $20" me "sorry, I could only fit 3 gallons in my bike"

Re: Are You Still Commuting on Your Bike?
Rode the moped yesterday and today. Damn windy this afternoon. Just put some better lights on for night riding. 35 watts wasn't enough. Lot's of salty crap all over the pipe.

Re: Are You Still Commuting on Your Bike?
I rode Boston-Peabody yesterday. Windy but I didn't even have insulation under my gear.

Re: Are You Still Commuting on Your Bike?
Froze my nads off riding into work this morning. 25* when I left. But hey, at least I had two 6" headlights blocking the wind.

Re: Are You Still Commuting on Your Bike?
Still in the game.
I enjoyed the rain washing down the streets on Monday.
North on 93 from Rockland to Medford.
I usually see 2 other bikes heading south on the south east expressway 93s. South of Boston.
One usualy is a Gray/blue BMW GS with side bags.

Re: Are You Still Commuting on Your Bike?
Took a little spin yesterday, 40 miles at 40ºF. Would have been longer, but I didn't bring the harness to plug my gloves into the bike, and I forgot to wear a scarf. Still fun. I ziptied the glove plug-in harness to the bike when I got back. It's been intermittently cold here, but usually dry, so I think I'll get a few more good rides in.

Re: Are You Still Commuting on Your Bike?
Finally got security at work to get rid of all the cars in the bike spots:

I work security and we have 3-4 bikes that ride all year long as long as there is no snow on the roads.

The problem I'm having right now is my helmet; My breath fogs it up and then it freezes over. Thinking real hard about getting a snowmobile-type helmet...

If you have a late model Arai, Shoei, HJC or several other makes & models of helmet, you can solve this for relatively little money. Look into a new visor and matching PinLock insert, for under $50 in most cases. They work just perfect, as does a FogCity insert. A FogCity insert in a regular helmet does reduce the peripheral vision a bit, the newer helmets engineered to use PinLock are less affected.

I open my aria at slow speeds and close it when cruising around. Not too much of an issue. I do have the pin lock on the race helmet and it worked great at the last cold rain event

"Pinlock is currently not available for the following helmets: SyMax II...."

Re: Are You Still Commuting on Your Bike?
Still holding on, although riding without insulated gloves was interesting

Re: Are You Still Commuting on Your Bike?
Rode home tonight, it was about 34 degrees. It wasn't that bad, only thing cold were the hands!
-
Re: Are You Still Commuting on Your Bike?
I rode yesterday as well.
It was a bit chilly on the ride home, but not bad. When I got off the bike, I realized that I hadn't plugged in my Gerbings...

Re: Are You Still Commuting on Your Bike?
Did 140 miles on the KLR yesterday, unplugged, it was good. Not a commute, I rode between 10 & 4. The tall ZG screen on the KLR seems to help trap engine heat. An extra quilted vest under my Olympia AST 2 jacket worked well.

rode to work today, it's pretty nice out

Re: Are You Still Commuting on Your Bike?
We usually wait until the first snow storm of the year before we put all of the bikes away. (Nothing wrong with taking the bike out for a ride in 30 degree weather. I like wave and rev at the all the cagers staring in horror...lol). I put the Ninja away for the winter today. Once the tires and engine were warm, it was time for some fun. It felt great leaving a stoplight just above idle and shifting at 12,000 RPM a couple of times. Leaning a little through a couple of turns later on. It sucks to take a couple of months off for the weather. Bring on global warming!!

Re: Are You Still Commuting on Your Bike?
Took last week off. Used Wednesday to check out the roads and Thursday was too cold.
Rode to work today, but didn't see any other bikes.
Sadly, I think I'm the only one (at my company) riding to work now :(.

Yeah, I'm done until March or April.

Re: Are You Still Commuting on Your Bike?
Probably not going to ride to work anymore until morning temps get back up to the 30's

where do you work reks? I work in Marlboro and rode a couple a times to work the week before christmas. With all the salt and ice I am staying cautiously away, the itch is there, I may try next week when the temps supposed to go upto 40

Re: Are You Still Commuting on Your Bike?
I commute from Marlborough to Newton (usually along route 9). About 20 miles & 35 minutes each way. If it was longer (in time) or faster (in mph), it would be a lot colder :)
I don't think I'd feel comfortable on my Triumph, but on my WR salt, sand, and slush haven't been a problem. Obviously, you can't ride like it's the middle of the summer and riding in the dark is pretty intimidating.
I'm actually a little more worried about the days with temps in the 40's - it melts at 2pm and it's ice by 6:30 when I'm trying to ride home in the dark.
