I got a new shoei for xmas and I'm not sure if it fits right. It feels snug everywhere, there is a firm pressure on the cheeks, and I can't slip a finger between the brow and helmet. However, with the helmet strap on tightly, I can pull on the chin part and push up on the rear of the helmet and cause the helmet to go over my eyes. I can't get it to come off my head though. What do you guys think? Too big?
wrong shape for your head

Ahh that's something I didn't think of. Thanks.
Ok new question. What shape does everyone think my head is? I'm gonna go with egg maybe, but it could also be round.

The shoei I got is an RF-1000 which is oval-shaped I think?
What are some slightly rounder shaped helmets? I think the Arai Quantum is round. What are some others?
Any chance you are going to one of the bike shows? Helmet reps are usually there and can give you an "expert" opinion.
The latest HJC's are more round. I know because they no longer fit my egg-shaped melon!!
But the new Scorpions have left me in elliptical bliss!!!

go to MM they are great to get fitments for a helmet

I guess the thing to do is just take it back to where ever it came from and try on other models and brands.
Having tried on the Shoei though I can tell that my old helmet (HJC CL-14) is clearly too big. I can move it all around my head with ease. It's also about 3 years old so the padding must have compressed a little too.
Go to Motomarket... they're excellent with helmet fitment.
They'll pull a tape measure and measure your noggin and suggest the correct shape for you.

The helmet was purchased from Brockton Cycle so I would feel bad going to MM just to get the fitment.

Def. try Arai. One thing I found while the man and I were trying on new lids is that if a Shoei doesn't fit, an Arai probably will....and if an Arai doesn't fit, you'll have better luck with Shoei. Different markets for different heads, I guess.Originally posted by SQUIZZ636

If you run into a wall with a helmet on, you still ran into a wall.
I must have an inbetween head because i have an Shoie RF 1000 Diabolical and an Aria Quatum 2 and they both feel great. Measure one inch above your brow line around the circumference of your head and thats what you take. All helmet manufactures use this measurement. Excuse the spelling Alex i've had a few,...my brother is still here from Florida on Holiday. My Suomy is tight on the cheeks and they told me after a while it will break in nice. Shoei nice Helmet by the way Merry Christmas!![]()

Anyone ever try Shark helmets? They seem to get great reviews from the European moto mags.

Yup... I've got a Shark RSR... it's my favorite helmet... and I think that says a lot since the other 2 helmets in my closet are a Suomy Spec 1R and an Arai RX7 Corsair.

Had my Quantum for 6 yrs now so its time for a new lid. Where is southshore motorsports? Does anybody know a shop in the boston area that carries Shark?
Ive never been to southshore but from what I understand if you want to go try things on the place to go is Brockton Cycle. Its where I got my helmet and they have a ton of different stuff there to try on. They advertise Shark helmets on their page but I havent been there in a while so I dont know if they actually have them on the floor. Last time I was there they had arai, shoei, sumoy, and hjc just to name a few out to try on. That would be the place to compare.Originally posted by zachary6

Southshore has Shark Helmets to try on they have at least 6 diffrent models you can try on. Brockton cycle carries one model to try on thats it. If you Map Quest it you can be dropped of at there front door. I think there in Quincy.Originally posted by zachary6
