    Re: R1 throttle mod

yeah, i never said it would fix any throttle slop -- i might've articulated wrong, though. my cable was stretched before i did the swap, and when i made the adjustment, i deliberately cut off slightly less than i expected to need to, since i'm pretty sure my suzuki throttle tube wasn't meeting the return without a 1/8" of slop -- i don't think it was a cable issue, i'm pretty sure it was a less-than-perfect manufacturing process or something like that, the tolerances being much smaller on the R6 tube. just so happens that it fits.

i gotta run to a monster exam, though. grad-level psych of persuasion class that only has 2 exams, so each is worth 50% of my final grade

Gotcha. I thought you were saying that installing the 1/4 turn made the cable tighter and took away slack.

It does mean the cable will be tighter, but if it is properly adjusted now, it must have not been before.

Anyhoo, I know what you mean now.

As for the Harris performance vacuum thingy. That's a new one on me.

The only ways I know to cure a jerky low rev throttle are to install a power commander and remap the low end or to adjust the idle up to 2k or 2500rpm. not a solution for the street, but common for racers.

Yeah, why not just get a PC III and install a new map or get a custom map made.

Anyway what exactly is the problem you trying to fix?

Actually, in my experience, a quick turn throttle can mask on/off abruptness (at least on a carbed bike). Don't know why exactly, but it felt that way on my duc...

because the cam has a larger circumference, it automatically takes slack out of throttle cables. That's probably why.

making it smoother when getting off the throttle. basically, just looking into things to make the bike ride and run better.

    Re: R1 throttle mod

Reducing the throttle rotation makes wot easier to achieve. Thats the only reason I'd do it. I doubt I'll need this mod on this bike.

seems more of a common mod on the GSX-Rs than other street bikes.

I dont think i'll need it on my bike since it's street only. but for $13, I will probably install it before selling my bike. it sounds more of a custom performance upgrade for people that dont know bikes.

It won't give you any smoother or faster acceleration.
It won't smooth out a power curve or fix on-off throttle transition problems.
It won't magically make your throttle cables less sloppy (that was pure chance and they must have been maladjusted before).

If you feel that you have mastered the ability to fully control a throttle on corner exit (ratchet method) then by all means go to a 1/5 turn throttle. if you haven't got very good throttle control already, then a 1/5 turn throttle is a highside waiting to happen.

Anyone tried a 1/6 turn throttle yet?

I'm just replacing my throttle on the GS with an on/off switch. Partial throttle is for wimps.

I thought I'd chime in hear with all of this commotion. I believe this mod originated from an article in Sport Rider...

    Re: R1 throttle mod

the ppower gains weren't even what interested me the most, more the actions of the slipper clutch. the only reason i posted it here DB was looking for smooth on off throttle, from what i know it can be solved with a better technique or a slipper clutch, and for the money this seemed like a reasonable option if it indeed works! i posted the video to show the slipper clutch effect. and with just the vacuum installed it looked to work, but without actually getting to test it for yourself you'll never know, and yes the power gains do seem rediculous especially how they "didn't hit record on the camera", but engineering is a funny thing, sometimes it works!

Shit, if the brakes on the EX actually slowed the bike down I'd never turn the throttle off.

You just need some stickier sneakers or better yet, cleats, and fred flintstone the hell out of that bike.
