    RIP. Terrible accident...

I just watched the Video again. I feel for Colin and Valentino. Looks like Colin also took a very hard hit to the helmet off the front of Marco's bike. I wonder if he remembers much of what happened...

    Just bad all around...

    From Edwards' FB page:

"Thanks to everyone for ur support at this time Very sad to see a friend pass in any case. I'm holding up ok mentally, it was a very tragic accident Physically, besides a dislocated shoulder & ligaments involved, think both wrists & left heel have fractures too, getting X-rays on Wednesday. I feel sad for the whole MotoGP community right now, my heart is heavy for everyone affected, from family to fans. God speed my friend, u will be missed"

    I'm sure they will.

I remember all my off's in slow motion. I am still haunted by a lady that ran a stop sign in from of me. I can still picture my front tire fitting in between the rear tire and the rear fender as I was going over the trunk. I know this does not even compare to what these guys are going to be experiencing.

The mind is remarkable thing in how it chooses to remember and forget.

I read that due to the amount of hair he had, he had to wear a helmet 1 size too big. I don't know if that could be a reason his helmet came off, but I really don't think it would've mattered much due to the type of hit he took.

its probably because its so close to what we do and love so much..
plus its not something that happens at motogp.. its very rare and i dont think we have seen such a terrifying image at any other athletic event before
Not as rare as you think. We lost a Japanese rider (forgive me I forget the name) last year at that same track when he was run over by 2 riders. He was only 19. And in 03 we lost Kato at the suzuka (?) Track when he hit the wall at 100+ mph. And those are just the most recent. In fact, since inception, motogp has lost over 50 riders in almost as many years. I assume it includes all 3 classes, but either way its a horrific number when you compare it to other sanctioning bodies.

    Re: RIP Simoncelli

I understand being upset. Even more so if you're a racer and look up to and respected him, but posting graphic details about how he died, etc just seems like overkill. I was sick to my stomach when a few NESRians on my facebook posted an article today with still images in it of Rossi at the point of impact. What good does that do anyone involved, much less me?

Sorry, do what you want, its not my place to tell you what you can and can't post.

I truly respect your opinion Jackie. Really do. As a matter of fact I did notice that some newspapers did post at least one picture of the accident I thought was out of good taste.

For the record, I did not post any pictures or hyperlinks to pictures of the incident (not here, not anywhere else).

Since the subject on this thread was the accident itself. I thought it would be nice to initiate a thread about his life here: http://www.nestreetriders.com/forum/...te-thread.html

The matter concerning his passing away is closed for me.

    Thank you for your post.

I thought it was a good move by Dave Despain not to show it on Wind Tunnel. I was surprised when I went to espn.com yesterday and the video autoplayed from about 1 second prior to impact.

That was what I was going to post but wanted to wait.
A properly fitting helmet should not come off unless (forgive the graphic statement) the head is still in it.

    Re: RIP Simoncelli

a lot of people at work that they saw the accident (they do not ride or watch GP) they said that the company that made the helmet is DONE.
its weird how someone (more than 5 people) who are not connected to motorcycles at all can make such a bold statement based on the general shopping experience..
its hard to explain to someone how many factors need to go wrong in order for this accident to take place..
