I'm out. Party plans that will likely leave me in no condition to ride 2 wheels.

I left early and did a 1A along the coast, Salisbury, Hampton, Rye. A little windy but nice!

Geez, I hope my body is in shape for this group ride. Went out for a short ride Sat... longer ride, maybe 1-1.5 hrs yesterday, and drove into work today (50 mile round trip). My neck and back are feeling it.. and my wrists are starting to get sore. Boy, I should ease into it! I certainly noticed with this "new to me" bike the wind hits me harder and even makes my helmet/neck rattle a bit at about 70-80mph.. I need to lose my gut so I can tuck in more.. har har....not sure if I can take 300 miles of it

I am with you on that one... I went out for 50+ miles on Sat and my back and neck were not sore it was my wrist and forearm/hand from the clutch. I got stuck in traffic for a while and it was a killer. I felt like i was squeezing one of those workout hand things. Still pumped for the ride as long as its 55+ degrees out.

Remember it's the season opener not a race. You don't have to do the whole route. If you feel you are getting tired ,stop and say something, no crime there. Tired and cold is not the way to ride. Layer up the clothes and if you need ,take a break, nobody is going to think any less of you. Just remember that you have to get home in one piece. Don't sweat it boys!

So what's the rider count? People seem a bit worried about the distance for a first group ride. Just remember to ride within your own limits.

wow forty plus riders. is this the ideal place to be for a first time group rider? I have read the rules and guide lines. yet I remember the days of riding in packs and drafting on a bicycle. I am sure this not at all the same. are there sub leaders for missed traffic lights. (major squid here, looking to tag along at the back is quite alright.)

Not that I'm aware of. The entire book is a great read and well worth the price of admission, IMHO. Got mine at Barnes & Nobles and read thru it cover to cover at least 5 times within the first month of having it.

You don't need "sub leaders" as long as the rider in front of you stops when they can no longer see you and so on, eventualy the leader will be riding alone. Although I was on a ride and had to travel about 15 miles to catch up after a rider binned. Are you a new rider or a squid? there is a difference! Honestly this might not be the best way to start the riding season and learning to ride in a group imho

Re: March 28th Open season ride.

This seems like way way too huge a group for a group ride, seems like its going to be a group cruise instead of actually riding a B or even C pace. Id love to do this ride but thats just way too big, i like to ride a B pace but with 39riders+ thats just crazy. I mean all it takes is one car to drive slow in front and i know 40 motorcycles arent going to pass one car and still keep up. Idk thats just me though, maybe ill meet up and meet and say hi to everyone but thats just nuts lol
