my extremely random 2 cents - everything's just a rumor til the first weekend we get up there and they actually act upon all this stuff - and the 2nd weekend when they change it again....
Not gonna lie though - I don't care if I get perks, though the free water and orange freeze pops from Mel to keep me hydrated and out of that damn ambulance again are pretty awesome. I'm just kinda happy to help. Wave a flag for a couple hours keep some dudes and chicks safe - you know - all's good in a day up at NHMS
If you can't race it or take it to bed.....it's not worth having.

Just letting you guys know, I am not spreading any rumors, The helmet is a definate. Since helmets are required this year, i want to buy my own before i go there and end up making a midnight trip to wal-mart when i can buy something better and cheaper with some research time.
Everything else that is ironed out before the first weekend will be posted so that all workers can prepare themselves for the first weekend. I am not in the rumor spreading business, I am on the board of directors for the US Marshalls and want to pass on theinformation as it becomes definate.
The number of workers will remain the same on the track. Flaggers in all the usual corners and then the number of workers will depend on the corner. Every corner willhave a captain as usual.
The helmets will be required for anyone who has a job that has the potential to put them onto the track surface while bikes are on course (captains, and workers who pick up and drag/roll bikes away). Flaggers should not need helmets as they are off track and in protected areas. Not saying the track won't change the requirement, but that is how it is right now.
got ya, so it's a nhms thing, not us marshalls thing?
don't think megs biceps are much help on-track, as far as i know, she hasn't been one of the on-track peeps.
now, helmet has to be full-face you say? any details?
the mountain bike full face helmets are nice and light... so is my HJC carbon fiber one![]()
If I can lift bikes, Meg should be able to one arm caber toss them over the fence. : )
Never said full faced, and Mountain bike/bicycle helmets are not going to do the trick.
We will know more after this weekend about the requirements of the helmets. Meg has worked corners without flags before.... at the track evenif the corner is well staffed it is always nice to have a person to wave the riders in one direction or another...
They should buy a ton of these - http://www.amazon.com/PROTEC-ACE-GLO...9458196&sr=1-1

lol I heart you to duder only a couple more weeks!!!
and I've never actually worked with her in 4 but she has had to peal me off of the floor of the platform in 2 and take me for a ride in the ambulance when I was near delirious from sun/heat stroke - wicked awesome![]()
camelbaks for the win

That is something a lot of people don't realize happens until it is way too late. Granted there is a lot of looking around and most of time there is some kind of a breeze but there is very little shade and you can be out there from 8-11 and 12-6. That is a lot of exposure. There is a lot that happens and you can forget to drink, snack and reapply sun tan lotion.
You have to prepare yourself for 2 extremes. 1. The all day heat and sun 2. The all day monsoon. Everything else is easily manageable.

You and I were meant for each other sweety...I'd treat you right!
You like wine? I'd pick grapes for you on a hot summers day...then I'd squeeze those grapes into an award winning wine that I'd then name after you; then take that wine across the country selling it, all the while telling the good wine drinkers across the country how beautiful you are....Does this sound like something you'd be interested in? I'd also bring my shoes and glasses, just so I have them..
