Well raced Canaan yesterday!
Gota say some of the best pavement I have raced on. track is interesting and technical, not the biggest place and, on my Ducati, it was one gear all the way around. still was a hoot to ride a couple of spots where you didn't what to come off but not the worst place.
Spartan facilities, porta potties. no electric, descent stores down the street, gets points for being clean. overall i would do it again but need a RV tent camping is not for me anymore.
going to rate it 6th

Your park avenue leads to..
I did the fan laps at the COTA motoGP round. It doesn't really count, but I got the sense that it is a super fun track to ride. A lot more elevation change than it appears on TV. Cool mix of fast/med/slow corners and that linked series of esses. It is definitely now on my bucket list to ride.
Speaking of tracks really far away from us, there's a really cool site to find trackdays from a ton of orgs throughout the country. In case y'all didn't already know about it: https://trackdays.fyi
COTA is $$$!!!
That is funny. As much as I hate to admit it, I have come to enjoy Thompson, if for nothing other than the last 4 turns and the ensuing straight. Getting it squared up and holding it pinned over the crest inducing a wheelie/slide/tank slapper with the wheel still in the air is a pretty epic feeling.

Jim I really think you need to specify "Thompson Counter Clockwise"... as Paul said, we don't even ride that direction anymore.
I really wasn't a fan of Thompson either for the first couple of years we went there... but like Paul, it's grown on me. The only section I don't really like is the oval... so exit of T5 through entrance of T7. The rest is pretty fun. T4 is a little slow for my liking but it's a good training corner.
Obviously it's not a dedicated roadracing course and shouldn't be considered as such... However the same can be said of Palmer, which I love. I think trying to rank dedicated roadracing courses and track day tracks in the same list is like trying to rank apples and oranges. Sure it can be done but you need a lot of asterixis if you want to actually tell the whole story and represent each track honestly and in good faith.

Which I will now do
My last ranking list was SEVEN FRIKKIN YEARS ago... so let's revisit and update....
From 2016:
Yes, that was 7 number 1's on that list... but I like NYST Uptown a bit more now I think. Better than Thompson at least, so I'd flip those... Hmm...
Chuckwalla
NHMS (mainly cuz I know it so well)
NYST downtown
VIR North
NJMP Thunderbolt
Palmer
NYST Uptown
Remlap (Palmer Clockwise)
Monticello North
Monticello 66
Thompson Clockwise
VIR South
Thompson Counter Clockwise
NJMP Lightning (in the rain for 10 laps. Couldn't get a decent feel for it but it needs more turns)
Center Garage pit bike circuit
That seems like a decent ranking order, but these are by no means on a linear scale... at least 8 of them could easily be in my top 5 depending on the day.

thanks guys. I just didnt enjoy a "series" that went to the same track 7-8 times a year. I didn't understand how some of the veterans could do it for 20+ years. I won my first race ever with ASRA at NHMS and that got me the desire to try the series. That forced me to try other tracks and never looked back. I'm not opposed to NHMS anymore, and I get the convenience of being 1-2 hours from home.
Now I just want to ride and always try to to ride a new track every season. Riding with WERA this season puts 3 new tracks on my list which I'm glad I did. Road Atlanta was way better than I had expected. Barber I know will be awesome. I've been there before to help pit for a Moto America round and did a track walk. I'll get to race there for the first time in a month.
I had the opportunity to race in another country a few years back and that's still been in the back of my head. Think it's a better opportunity than trying Laguna or some of the courses out west.
Yeah. The trackday I did in Guatemala was epic. Partly because it was unplanned and bestowed upon us by yhe kindness of strangers. Partly because it was amid volcanoes, and partly because the locals we madmen! Lol
