He He, you said wood!! Anything under a 30 is a good pace for a motard. Especially if it was your first dry weekend. It took me a weekend or two to get used to the motard. JUST KEEP RIDING!!!Originally posted by rmbbikes
YAY now I don't have to go ask my nephew who's 9 how to use mspaint. Mike that is spot on for the crf450. I'm running the X model and the gears are a little taller I'm running a 42 out back but still spot on for shift points and gears. Now if I could only go as fast as you!!!
I'm happy I ripped a 28 off on the last weekend. I only had 3 weekends the last three and two of them were wet and cold. I got a 3rd place wood in super singles the last race of the season. I was glad a lot of people went home early.

i think this is right. the "template" is actually for "tight 10" so i improvised.
im riding an 01 SV650 1 tooth down in the front. best time: low 1:21sometimes 1 run 4th gear through 1 and down to 3rd for 1a and 2. its pretty rare that hit 6th unless im trying to pass down the straight

Mike a few ?'s for you for next season. When you're on the 450Originally posted by mmracer37
This is for the super retard CRF450 15/39
Knee down or foot out?
Where do you brake going into 3? Do you bang all three gears with the clutch in and on the brakes and then let it out or do you down shift one let the clutch out, then another and let the clutch out, then another let the clutch out?
5th gear round 9 and 10 and then 2 gears in the braking zone in between 11 and 11a where the puddle usually gathers, while you're straight up and down?
Gracias!!

wait, that's supposed to be a corner? damn, i am slow.
Yup, my proggression was from kicking the bike straight up and down there to knee down coming in, staying off the bike and kicking it up a bit and braking, and my newest level is trail braking it lightly instead of putting a kill on it. Also depends if I'm dropping a gear when I come in or not. The plan is to be knee down through and through.
It's all water under the bridge, and we do enter the next round-robin. Am I wrong?
Goddamnit. I shift EVERYWHERE on that damn 'tard. I'm probrobly doing something wrong...

I get on the brakes into 3 right about half way (3rd cone) down the chute. I NEVER touch my clutch lever during a race, just kick it down. However, I have a slipper clutch in my bike(makes life easy).
I'm in 4th going thru 9&10, then I grab 3rd going into 11 .
Hope this helps
Mike,
NIce meeting you on Wensday! Thanks for hosting that seminar.
Can you downshift like that using say... 1/8th clutch on a non-slipper-equipped tard without fear of transmission damage?
People keep telling me you can, but I'm leery of stomping hard on that shift lever without the clutch engaged. I dont care if it starts hopping the back around, I can control that with light clutch control, but I dont want to bend shift forks.

if you use a little throttle when stomping down it'll relieve the pressure on the tranny & pop into the next gear easier... i downshift my EX w/o the clutch 90% of the time.... Hit the brakes, put pressure on the lever, blip the throttle like you're rev matching & it pops right in

Hmmm.. Thanks Pete! Something else to try. Never downshifted (except by accident) without the clutch.
I guess my fear would be that it wouldnt engage, and I'd be halfway into T3 in 4th gear, and off-roading in the kitty litter.

it's just like upshifting w/o the clutch... just gotta relieve tension on the trans.
I should add that if you get it right it's butter smooth... if you don't, it's a little jerky.... because of that I use the clutch if i'm leaned over.
PS... others will tell you it increases wear to the transmission... i haven't seen that yet, nor do i really even care if it does![]()
