    Draining coolant reservoir

Is there some easy way to drain this damn thing, other than take the whole thing out and dumping it upside down? Maybe just syphoning the fluid out through the fill hole (giggity). All I know is when I drain the radiator theres stioll water left in the reservoir and I cant figure out some seemingly simple way to get the shit out, so am I retarded, or is there no easy way (and in this case its not a multiple choice answer).

    Re: Draining coolant reservoir

Richie just take the reservoir off... it's like two bolts eh?

There is also often a little bit of crud in the bottom so I take the thing off, drain it, clean it out with hot water, etc.

    Re: Draining coolant reservoir

The EX is easier than my 636, but even its a pain in the ass to get to the bolts. Gotta take off the tank, get into the bolts, get the hoses off, etc. I just thought there might be an easier way.

well in that case if you don't mind not cleaning it just use a siphon you can find one for like 10 bucks... or suck it out and try not to get it in your mouth

    Re: Draining coolant reservoir

Joel with that much shit Id really think about figuring out how to get it off and clean it out well.
I had a LITTLE in mine last year, and I used a mityvac to drain it, and just refilled it with water and drained it a couple times, seemed to get most of the crud out.

Im not gonna drain the 636. but Ive done it in the past, and things worked the same way, just used that as an example.

    Re: Draining coolant reservoir

I have to do mine... drain out all the engine ice and go to distilled/wetter

edit: speaking of that if someone wants the ice i will hook them up, i've only run it for like a thousand miles (all track though)... i have about half a jug of fresh stuff, and then a jug and a half in the bike that is still fine to be used. that shit is expensive so i'm not gonna toss it or anything

You can leave engine ice, cant you?

Draining water in the EX to put in antifreeze, but it was more of a general question, not necessarily bike specific.

Drain the water to put in anti-freeze.

Well, that is an option, but I have diluted stuff, and then the problem would just arise next spring when I need to drain the anti-freeze anyway. But that might become an option now.

Joel, is that for the 675? If so, the tank has to come off as the bolts are on the inside. While you're at it search over on the 675 forums for the size of the fittings to replace the plastic elbows on the 675. They are known to crack and dump coolant. And in a few cases all over your rear tire.

    And no...no recall.

Does, but at that point itd be just as much work to unhook it and drain it easier.

    Re: Draining coolant reservoir

DB, you don't need to drain the resevoir... it's plastic, it's gonna crack. Just pop the drain plug on the water pump & drain the radiator & the block.

If you wanna get rid of the crud on the bottom of the resevoir then just pull the hose off the bottom & spray a hose in the radiator to stirr it all up and flush it out the resevoir drain hole.
