    Car insurance rates!

What is wrong with this picture, I ask?

    Currently in our driveway:

    Hyundai Sonata V6, 3.3 liter
    Nissan Armada V8, 4WD

Current insurance cie is Plymouth Rock:
Hyundai for a year is $1358.00
Armada for a year is $1488.00

I am shopping around to find better rates....so far I have called AllState, read this: for BOTH vehicles, they gave me a quote of $1530.00/year!

I don't get it. Why is the difference so HUGE? If we were to switch to AllState, we'd pay a few dollars more than the truck alone with Plymouth, to have both vehicles covered. YES, this is with the same coverage we have now, which is the minimum required by the state of Mass. We're gonna look into getting a quote for the house and the motorcycles too.

How is this OK for one insurance company to charge you one arm and one leg...when you can get the same coverage elsewhere for less than half the price?

are you sure that its the price for both combined or price for both meaning they are both that much?

    Re: Car insurance rates!

How do they value your vehicle when it is totaled?
How easy is the claims process?
What kind of customer service do they provide?
How much are they willing to fight for you if you are in a accident that is not your fault?

These all affect the value of the insurance policy. I might pay a little bit more for State Farm (though my rates are lower than I've ever paid so I'm happy, and the competition doesn't seem to give me any better deals), but I've had 2 claims through them now and both went very smoothly. They also valued my SV at $89 more than I paid for it 3 years ago.

Just because the coverage amounts are the same doesn't mean that every incident will be covered the same.

Also, a company can charge what they want, it's up to you to make sure you are getting a good deal. Some companies just like a higher markup without any additional services provided.

You sure it was per year, and not per 6 months?

Seriously. I wash my ears regularly, I heard right. I made him repeat, I even asked him if he was fucking with me....umm scratch that.

If you pay that much for state minimum coverages you must have a very colorful driving history. I have 3 cars, full coverage and pay $1700 a year (2005 Sienna, 2010 Mazda and 1990 Mustang). Havent had a ticket since 1998.

I think you are getting porked with whatever carrier you are currently with.

I just switched to Allstate after having a very similar experience.

My truck insurance was basically cut in half and my homeowner's insurance was about $400/ year cheaper than other companies.

    Hey, whatever works!

I understand that. I also like the convenience to be able to go in person if I have to. With Plymouth Rock, I go thru an insurance agent 10 minutes from my home, they speak french canadian as a bonus. But still....more than double the rates? I don't think it's worth it.

My driving history is not colorful...one speeding ticket stuck to my license, 2 years ago, 2 points.

I'd say your current rates are crazy high! My vehicles aren't worth a whole hell of alot, but I pay slightly more than you're paying for your Armada for my truck and both my bikes total, per year. And I'm a male, under 25. I have Amica for the 4x4 Tundra and Progressive for the SV and XR650R.

    Re: Car insurance rates!

Call geico for a quote over the phone. I had State farm for the bike and car and found out I was getting ripped off on the car coverage.
Bought a different used car and went with Geico, they had the lowest rates compared to all the places I got quotes from. The bike is still under State farm, they have the lowest prices for bikes by far.

29 year old male, waterbury, ct, don't think I had tickets within 3 years of quote. $125 per month on a 2007 civic si sedan, full coverage, forget what my liability limits are but probably just a little more than state minimum.

Yeah.. I'd say you're paying too much. I went from Commerce which was the cheapest for me to Metlife (my work offered a discount for payroll deduction etc). I would double check with your coverage sheet, and call around. I've had great experience with both companies so far in terms of response, coverage, and reimbursement.

To add my few cents I would suggest looking into Liberty Mutual. They are super competitive with their rates, great customer service, local MA company, and available all the time. They also offer great multi-policy discounts that can cover cars, home, and even bikes.

Liberty mutual is who we have used for a number of years.
new saab aero and a EB Expedition = $1250 per year total, but i have my house through them as well.
They were pricey for the bike, and that goes through arbella

    Re: Car insurance rates!

Used to use Liberty Mutual for cars, house and bike. Then they closed my local brand (45 minutes away).

I left them for Progressive on the cars. To register a car, I call progressive, then they email me an RMV-1. Liberty Mutual wanted me to fax this, fax that, then they would snail-mail it or I'd have to drive to Auburn (2 hrs away) to pick it up.

Just got an email from Liberty Mutual last night, they can finally email RMV-1's. I think I may switch back.

You sure AllState isn't a 6 month quote?

When I had AllState (admittedly in NH) they ran 6 month policies. They were crazy expensive, not sure why it took me so long to ditch them.

MetLife gives me great rates.. I pay about $900 for my VFR + Acura. "Full Coverage" with increased liability protection.

1st problem I see is 20/40 coverage on Part 5. That's the state minimum. You need more coverage than that to protect yourself. There's one reason the quote is so low

I know it's the state minimum. We chosed it that way. We have the SAME EXACT coverage with Plymouth Rock and like I said, they charge us more than double. I don't know how else to say it...we are getting ripped off by this company. Maybe I should mention that my husband and I each received a refund on our motorcycle insurance from Plymouth Rock because there was an investigation opened on them on how they were calculating their motorcycle insurances rates....he got a refund of over $500, mine was about $250. That was a few days ago. Can you say something fishy is going on with them?
