I'll agree that it might not be worth going with a tacoma. I'm still strongly considering a later model corolla hatch and continuing to lean on my trusty utility trailer.
Automatic transmissions suck.
So do manual transmissions actually.
Once you try without either, you won't like them too.

Sadly I just cannot justify $70k for the rivian.
1've had a second gen and third gen Tacoma. My second gen was one of the best trucks i've ever had. Other than the throwout bearing issue they had it never
let me down and I abused it off road and had a fisher homesteader plow on it. I did put denver leaf springs and lifted the front made it so much more capable.
Third gen I never got comfortable in and it was a auto which sucked. I'll keep finding older manuals trucks and jeeps till I can't push in the clutch anymore.
Put a new diff cover on my truck. Advantages are that it is finned aluminum so it will keep cooler, it had a magnetic drain plug to attract any metal, and it has a fill and drain plug which the stock doesn't have. Also, it looks sweet, and you can see it easily with the truck so high. It was kind of random which rear end 7.3L trucks came with. Luckily mine came with the big dawg 11.6" 16 bolt sterling rear end. 4.30 gears and an electric locker.

My brother in law just got a 2024 Tacoma. Fully loaded.
I drove it yesterday for a bit. Underwhelming is the best word I could find to describe it. Back seats are good enough for about a toddler. All the fancy technology (massive screen in the center console, rear view mirror is digital) doesn’t do much for me personally. Interior quality feels cheap (pretty standard Toyota I’d say).
What I liked: it drives more like an SUV than a truck. So definitely more comfortable daily / long trips / highway. It looks really good on the outside. Black and white combo gives it a really nice aggressive-ish look.
He got on lease and it was dirt cheap: $335 a month.
He doesn’t do any truck stuff. This is literally a daily driver for them. So I guess it makes sense for them. I never had any trucks that weren’t work trucks as primary use so I can’t exactly relate.
I think if we absolutely wanted a “family” truck and didn’t have access to our heavy duty’s the tundra would be up there for me.
My 2010 F-150 FX4 5.4 163000 is facing doing a cam phaser on the driver's side, has anyone done this job. Going to probably do both sides even though only the driver's side has the issue.
Biggest issue I believe, at least on 3.5 cam phasors, is it requires 1 or 2 specialty tools.
So I pulled the trigger on a 2024 F250 this week with the 7.3 gasser. I've been shopping them for a long time and I stumbled upon the right deal and had to act quickly.
It's a well optioned out Lariat trim with an optional paint job (white with metal flake) and it's a pretty comfortable space to be in. It also came with twin alternators and dual batteries. I already put a tonneau cover on and I have Husky mud guards and rear wheel well liners ready to be installed once the weather warms up so I can clean the truck.

chains, hooks & binders are an investment in itself, I just bought a 20ft 3/8 chain with snatch hook on each end & ratcheting binder for $125
