The mechanical ones with multiple spindles are kinda mind blowing.
Not sure if you saw this one.

Have you ever seen a gridley ? Not sure if that’s correct spelling. I worked for a manufacturer in new Britain that probably had the biggest collection of this early 1900 multi spindle mechanical screw machines. They would have 12 plus running at a time. Pretty amazing tech for its day. Definitely helped us win ww II.
When I spoke with the guy at Kibble White, he said there isn’t much for material that gets removed. They have forged blanks that are close in size to the original valve, machine the finish, then add the coatings.
And an update on the valves, Kibble White has 2 of my original valves and confirmed they can make them. I sent them a deposit, and now it’s a waiting game. The price was $240.00 each valve, I’m only making the 8 I need.
The nascar place, Victory 1 performance, has been silent, so assuming they are a no go on the 2nd set at this point.

That is neat! Yeah I think they are referred to as Acme Gridleys. Those have much larger capacities than the Davenport and more attachments. The main advantage of the Davenport is the reduction in mass of the carrier/spindles so they can rotate quickly. With some configurations I have seen the Davenport achieve a cycle time of 0.5 seconds per part (making 2 parts per second) with manufacturing a simple threaded nut.

I'm more familiar with it for bolt forming. When you cut across the grain structure, you lose a lot of strength. I don't think it's so much a material property change from the forge, you just aren't disrupting the grain structure if it's forged close to form, then machined on the critical surfaces.
Updates?
The new valves are complete and have shipped, tracking says they will arrive tomorrow
I’m excited to see them, more excited to finally get this bike running again.
