Uhhhh.... How bout the United States? Think the US doesn't already have Tiered licencing? Wrong... Look at all the different types of automobile licenses there are. Look at all the different types of AIRCRAFT licenses there are. Firearms, explosives, construction equipment, the list goes on. Granted they're not ALL based on power or displacment (some most certainly are), but it serves the same general purpose - to keep dumbasses w/o proper training piloting equipment that they're not capable of handling.

IMO, the same should be applied to motorcycles. Someone who has not displayed enough skill to handle anything w/ more than X amount of hp should be restricted to bikes w/ less than X amount of hp, or something along those lines.

If only we could be more like the people in this forum - Tiered Licensing: Good or Bad? - General - CYCLE WORLD FORUMS

At least those people seem inteligent no matter what side of the fence they're on.

Seriously why are you bringing up drinking? Do you feel special that you don't drink or something? I've never drank and drove in my life. Does that mean I can still argue on the Liter bike subject?

My bad on the link i only got as far as "beer binging poker jumps". It just reminded me of the most common problem i have seen that has nothing to do with riding.

I don't feel special, The majority of people, no i am sorry ALL of the people that i have known thourout my life, even myself has either drove drunk or still drives drunk. Way off topic!

Argue away even if you drink and drive. i have completly lost the point

    I AM AN IDIOT!

    alright i said it!

thank god we live in america... even if there was tiered licensing I'd like to think a) many people would ignore it and b) manufacturers would build the biggest fastest most dangerous bikes they could that fit under the displacement limits.

I grew up riding dirt as well (15 years), and my first street bike was a liter bike, no I didn't wear gear, and yes I have driven home when I shouldn't have. I'm not perfect. I had the same ideas that you did, and thought I can handle this, I've been on bikes for years. Turns out I did, and I never crashed my bigger bikes. It wasn't because I was good enough, or that I belonged on it, or that I took it easy to avoid any problems; it was because I was lucky, period. Eventually after hearing what you are hearing over and over again, I saw what everyone was saying. As it happens, I actually did become a decent rider "learning" on a 1K, but if I had to do it over, I would never have done it that way. I got lucky and did ok, but I know the only reason is because someone didn't want me to end it that way. Luck only carries you so far, and I would hope nobody ever uses me as a example of why a newb can get a 1K. Thats all I have to say, you might one day change you mind, maybe you wont, but just think about beyond your own tiny scope in your head.

If you look down, you go down. That may be fun at an orgy, but it sucks on a bike

Well a.) if it was like Europe I believe you CANNOT buy a bike without the proper licensing. b.) They already have done that. Take a look at the 250's and 400's in Europe and some of them really are race replicas built to squeeze out as much power as possible. They aren't perfect, but they're a lot less powerful than a 600 or 1000.
