So....doesn't this make that bike MORE dangerous for a new rider? Say you are new, and typically run it in B or C.....and forget, start the bike, and head out grabbing a fair amount of throttle based on the slower acceleration.... Maybe they should have had it default to B or C.![]()
I started with a 500 then 750 and worked my way up to owning a 1100 which is still a powerfull Bitch. I'm 44 it took awhile for that to happen...how or why people jump on something with that much power for there first bike is just nuts. But, to each his own and trying to get legislation to do something about it will get easier as time goes by because the more accidents there are the more people will start to notice. Pretty sad it will take alot of stupidity for something to get done about this but better late than never. I guess.

i think the idea of a tierd licence system and prior training for bigger bikes looks good on paper but in reality it wouldnt do ass. to take a test for a licence what must you do? be able to study a little bit of basic rules and regulations, and then be able to exhibit some riding skills? all the people on the road now have obviously been able to do these two things. so you make a harder test? fine people study harder. from what i saw at my msf class, i would say 80% of the people that passed should definatly NOT be on the road. MSF is great for learning the basics of the bike, but a 2 day crash course will not make you into a rider. things like balance and hand eye coordination doenst come in 2 days.
my theory might be flawed but i dont see how licencing affects stupidity.
also if you start limiting what people can buy due to their experience then they would have to do it with cars as well. and that would also not make any sense. a honda civic going 60mph and a ferrari going 150 will both kill someone just the same.
i say, its your money, you do what you want with it. it is america afterall. but when you fuck up doing mach 3 on your stretched busa with your girl on the back, your bitching will fall on deaf ears.

Yeah... I think I'd have been cool with it defaulting to C... They could have added a page or two in the manual about how to disable or change the default mode like you can do with a car that won't stop dinging b/c the driver's seatbelt isn't fastened.
Having to move it into "A" mode would make me think about whether or not the situation requires all of the motor. More often than not it doesn't.
The difference between modes isn't night and day, but it's definitely noticeable.

Dunno where Harleys came into this or what you think my "theory" is?
What I was trying to say:
In comparing an '07 GSX-R600 to a '97 ZX-9R, the Kawi seemed more planted. The GSX-R gets loose in the rear ("skips around") more easily. The larger displacement bike felt safer to ride, in other words. I was saying that I assumed it was due to 10 years of improvements to the power/weight ratio, and given all of that I'm not sure how you'd set limits based on displacement, as my new 600 is a scarier machine all around than my "old" 900.
