I rode from Maine to RI this weekend. While I was down in RI I was amazed to see that no one was wearing what I would conceder to be a reasonable riding jacket most did not have helmets and those that did were pudding’ bowls or other useless fitting things I saw maybe 5 sport bike riders with helmets actually on their heads but they were in shorts and tee-shirts. On my way home I saw maybe ½ a dozen riders in riding gear.
Do people just not wear gear on the street cause it is a little warm?
What do people here wear.?

I wear 2 piece leathers most of the time. In the colder months I'll wear my touring suit. ATGATG baby.
If it's too hot, I won't bother riding. Even if I wore no gear, riding on super hot days just isn't fun IMHO. Then again, I'm one of those people that hates summer, I'd rather be a little cold than stifling hot.
I always were boots, have a pair of daytona's but usually were a leather military boot in the heat. Gloves are gel ones, have those vented icon pants and right now need to buy a perf jacket. A buddy has the JR one, inexpensive and looks to have great armor in it. I wore my leather on Sat, it almost got to the point of not wanting to stop at all. I don't want to get into the habit of not wearing gear, my flesh means alot to me.
last year I lowsided at low speed, was wearing reg jeans and all the equipment above, only had a skinned knee more from initial hit, not cause jeans burned through. (and that was with some nifty cartwheel action)
I don't know why people are so cavalier with there riding??
I always wear all the gear that I have, a jacket, helmet, gloves, and leather boots. I still need to get some riding pants. Like schleppy, I don't ride if it's too hot, it's not enjoyable. I tried riding around the block with no gear on and I felt naked.
I wear a leather jacket, don't have a textile right now, mc gloves boots and helmet all the time. I have kevlar lined jeans that I wear sometimes, they are very warm. I wear leather racing pants sometimes. I do wear jeans or less sometimes and I'm not proud of it.
I usually go full gear, but instead of a leather jacket, I wear a mesh one. Still wear boots, gloves, etc.

crazy what people do...lots of riders round VT this weekend for Americade, and when I went up Smugglers Notch yesterday, my boy Tim and I were the only sport riders wearing gear. Dudes out there in shorts, cutoff tee's, etc. Stooopid...
When it gets hot like this I rock my Joe Rocket UFO mesh jacket, but my Icon leather jckt is per'fd so it holds up well in 80* weather.
Thing is, you never know whats going to happen. Right Doc!
My fellow co-worker JBzzle just wrecked yeaterday (sorry Justin, had to spill it). His rear tire seperated from the rim and sent him flying, it was hot out and he wasn't wearing his jacket, and he is all torn up. Came into work today with 16 stiches in his right arm and 7 stiches in his left hand. Road rash all up his left side, a hole in his arm, ugh...poor bastid. He'll be ok, but he learned the hard way.
It wasn't his fault in anyway, just a fluke thing...good lesson though to wear yo shit!!!
Get better big guy, and get that bike back up to speed!

My street gear is the same at 40 degrees as it is at 100 degrees. The only thing that changes is my base layers and if I go with the thermal liner. A* MX1 jacket, A* track pants, Held Phantom gloves, Sidi Vertigo Corsa boots and Arai RX7 helmet.

If you look down, you go down. That may be fun at an orgy, but it sucks on a bike
Dave wears shorts when he rides.. He burnt his leg on someones exhaust on a ride last year..![]()

I was up in NH this weekend and saw the same thing. People riding around in sleevless shirts, shorts, no helmets. I dont understand it, whats cool about lying in a bed getting iodine poured in your road rash? nothing!!
Whats worse, I went for a ride with my buddy later in the day. Im wearing A* leather jacket, gloves, lined jeans, boots, helmet, and he starts complanining that he is hot when he's wearing shorts and a T-shirt.

Work Hard---Play Harder
Ride how you want
Wear what you want
I could give a fuck!
BUT!!
You look like an idiot in shorts and a T-shirt
Flip flops, sneakers or non proper shoes
What's gonna happen when you hit the dirt
It is your skin that your gonna lose.
You don't look cool without any gear
If it is too hot just don't ride
I know your not listening and you don't hear
But if you go down you'll lose your hide
Enough of my rhyme
There is one way to ride
All the gear all the time
I do so with pride.

why else? do you see any body in shorts and t-shirts on a 30 degree day even in cars? comon. i dont have problem with it and if they want to follow me into those turns, that's fine too but i refuse to following into those turns riding like a pussy. it's nice to be able to push a litle more on warm day. you can always trust things are little stickier. i dont just ride to store on warm day if i ride at all.
"fuckit!"
I can understand why people don't wear the gear- its expensive, way too hot, it can be annoying to gear up and down everytime you stop somewhere for something. Still- I make a point to wear it because I don't have this same sense of invincibility that other riders do. I gear up the same way I ride- defensive, prepared for the worst case scenario.
^--lol
I freaking hate hot weather.
I rode yesterday in jeans and an armored mesh jacket. Surprised how many people I saw wearing little to no gear. I won't ride to work when it's this hot, if I ride for fun I walk into it knowing I'm going to need a shower when I'm done.
Bike shorts and a poly T under the jeans and jacket work wonders.

It was hot yesterday but didn't stop me from taking a couple hour ride. Perf Dainese leather jacket provides GREAT ventilation. I was really no hotter than I was cleaning the garage in shorts and t-shirt on Saturday.

+1 on that. Had to work over the weekend... ride in in the morning was nice, ride home? a little warm. I learned that I can grab my collar, hold it out and the air pours in, almost lifting the jacket right off my skin. a pain in the ass over simply not wearing it? sure. but not as much of a pain as it would be if i went down. I'll keep my jacket on. the rest of you guys do what you want.![]()
What?
