So i looked up the avg temp for the first race weekend , I found that it could be around 57 avg high 32 avg low for that time of year.
So what is your thoughts on tire's for the first round?
I am switching from mich to dunlops to start, because the new bike is set up for dunlops... I suppose i will be running a soft or med soft compound tire...
Is there any other things that will be affected by the low temps that i am not thinking of ? Plus i am thinking that the ground up there is still gonna have not completely thawed out and track temps will be COLD...
Watch nighttime temps -- might need to drain the water out of the engine at night if it's going to drop down below freezing. It would really suck to wake up Sunday morning to a cracked case.

it will be cold at night. if you're lucky it'll be in the 60s during the day and track temps may definitely be on the colder side... having said that it's possible to run reasonably quick. just hope for no rain.
going by just your avatar (and the red numbers on it) I personally wouldn't buy tires specific to the first weekend. I'd buy something a lot closer to what you'll use the remainder of the year and just make sure to get a feel for the track in april.
the reality is you'll be learning a new bike and new brand of tire so it's not a good time to go for a new personal best.

Ya, I have bumped to AM this season. I ran novice probaly longer than i should have.. My PB is a 1:19.8 on my old 02 gsxr 600. I was cooking through a rear a weekend on michelin's.
One of the reason i ask is i had a get off 2 years ago in NJMP thunder bolt..
I chalked it up to cold over night temps and wrong tire's for the conditions..
Please don't talk about snow...![]()

Ya snow would really SUCK....
My guess is flashfloods, blizzards, hurricane winds, and severe drought. But the real weather according to my Building19 crystal ball will be a nice sunny weekend with trees budding and fast lap times.
Also remember that you need to bring plenty of warm clothing. Nothing makes time at the track less enjoyable than shivering uncontrollably all night. And yeah, there is a good chance that some type of precipitation will fall at some point, so spare dry warm clothes are always nice. Don't forget extra socks and footwear too. I had a small electric heater (about $10 at Walmart) that made a huge difference on a few cold nights (and cold, rainy days too).

let's not talk about all that shit.

Has anyone even bothered to plow the track out yet ?

Actually no. The snow cover insulates and protects the surface. In areas of Europe they don't plow but run rollers over the snow. Then they spread gravel for traction. In some areas they leave a lane without gravel for cross-country skiing. In the spring they pick them up for reuse. Enviroment friendly and no potholes.

"The speedway’s snow squad has also been hard at work, removing nearly five feet of snow from around the property. The 55 inches of snow is double what the state saw last winter, during this same time period. The snow removed at the speedway would be equal to piling snow on top of the entire football field at Gillette Stadium, 27 feet high."

that's 1 take. another take is you were going to fast for the conditions. if you're made of $$ then buy specialty tires. most people (myself included) aren't so I'd get used to the new hardware on weekend #1 with maybe not optimum tires and really race weekend 2. meh. you're call obviously.
if you want a proper answer call your tire guy and talk it through with them.

Odds are it'll be cold. Bring an extra blanket to throw over your bike and a trouble light to throw under it to keep it from freezing.
And definately a heater if your camping!

Everyone that posted in this thread is getting punched. Hard. Including me, of course. That shit hurt. Ow.
Oh, and the fucker that started this thread? Running punt in the wedding tackle.
It DID snow one weekend in May one year! It was the year the May weekend fell on Mother's Day (although that's happened more than once!). Derek was running Paul Gilbert's old, clapped out ZX7 that year & was just about the only NESR soldier racing back then. Beth & myself watched his races from the comfy heat of his old blue Chevy S10 Blazer that weekend. THOSE were THEE days...
Did you grit your teeth and try to look like Clint Fuckin' Eastwood?
Or did you lisp it all hangfisted like a fuckin' flower?
I have raced in everything from snow to 90 degrees.. Plan for it all
