GMC states the EV Sierra will start at 50k, after this initial top spec model is released.
A new Lighting is now starting at $51,974. The way things are going, there is no way an electric Sierra is going to be anywhere close to that by then.
Granted we are looking at 2024 so many catastrophic things could cause an "adjustment" by then...

for shits and giggles, I was looking online at Volvo electric excavators, no big ones yet, 5000lb (biggest one) is just over $100k, 24" digging bucket, no thumb, blade without angle (didn't see those build options) 4 hr run time, 5 hr charge time on 220. fast charger cost $8k and requires 3 phase
how much actual run time ? I assume it's only "running" when you are actually spinning the hydraulic pump, unlike a diesel that is still idling

not till they have hot swappable batteries for me, a diesel excavator can be left on the jobsite till the job is done, the electric model has to go back to the shop to be recharged, and lack of 3 phase is a killer

How are you going to field swap a battery array for a 5 ton excavator?
I went to MMI I know what Im doing here chief
something the manufacturers have to figure out, possibly using the boom of the excavator
the other alternative is at the end of the day, leaving a generator running all night to recharge the battery for next day's use, or load it up and haul it back to shop.
manufacturers have to come up with a practical solution to keeping the battery charged while on a construction site

Test rode a bunch of electric mowers today at equip2022. I love the quiet and lack of vibration.
I can’t say if they lacking power because it was a controlled closed course with short lawn. How would they handle regular mowing? I think absolutely fine. Tall wet grass or leaves is what I wanna know.
Also the dewalt one caught on fire at the event (not in my hands lol)
Unless the batt is dead dead. We've replaced tracks on big cats we transported via barge to islands with no power so were there is a will there is away. The need for 3 phase sucks balls as it's been my experience when doing the work I do you're lucky to have a temp set up. When I did solar the battery packs were 6 cells per box so imagine 3 car batteries stacked would be one cell. Not easy and heavy yes but not impossible to replace one at a time even by boat. Also and I'm just guessing the cost to run it back to the shop every night would cut into any financial benefit of an ev HARD.

I've watched a guy lose a track in the woods and put it back on with his bucket, the only practical way imho, is to have field swapable batteries, most contruction sites I visit do not have power yet, and I'm seeing fewer generators, and more often, a pile of charged batteries for cordless tools and maybe a smaller inverter generator to keep the batteries charged

It’s designed to operate in everyday mining conditions at its Mogalakwena PGMs mine in northeast South Africa. The mine is the world’s largest open-pit platinum group metals mine. Anglo American intends to replace a fleet of 40 trucks there that use around a million liters of diesel annually.
The truck is part of Anglo American’s nuGen Zero Emission Haulage Solution (ZEHS), a green hydrogen system at the mine site. The system will draw power from a solar farm to supply a hydrogen electrolyzer to split water, which will then provide the trucks with green hydrogen fuel.
The ZEHS project is expected to be fully up and running by 2026. It’s the first step in making eight of the company’s mines carbon neutral by 2030. The global mining company has set a target of getting all of its operations to net zero by 2040.

So, it's not like swappable batteries are unsolved tech, so... why didn't this unit come out with them out of the crate? Maybe the tradeoff in power density, power capacity and weight?
equipment you have to bring back to shop every night or leave a generator running overnight is not a solution either

If they're selling, I suspect it's not as insurmountable a problem for some use cases as you're thinking.
