is it really worth over $100k, I seriously doubt the insurance company would pay out that much in a total loss. MSRP is only $85k regardless what premiums people are paying over that

It's so different that I'm never willingly going back to the dealer method ever again.

I don't need some loud tie/power watch dipshit Type-A'ing me while I know more about the vehicle he's trying his best not to have me buy. No haggling on price. No hidden bullshit fees. No undercoating and rustproofing. No VIN etching on parts to theft recovery. No extra super duper warranty upgrades. No "I'll have to check with my manager".

my comment is only based on my experience of having a 1 month old car totaled, because it is so new, there is no used book value yet, Look up the value for a used Rivan on NADA.

I had to fight with my insurance company, they wanted to take what I paid, and subtract 25¢/ mile, I ended up going to court, in the end they came up with a compromise, only subtracting a nickel a mile.

So I got 10k for engine 6.5k for tranny, 5k for service. About a 21k job for a full powertrain replacement.

The lightning battery pack is held with several bolts and can be changed in an hour or two, depending on the mechanic and the tools available.

You guys keep doing apples to oranges comparisons. If I need to replace the motor tranny on an ICE then compare it to a battery and electric motor replacement on an EV. If there is some sort of spike/surge that kills the batteries on an EV it will also kill the motors. No comparison, EV will be massively more expensive than an ICE.

You guys are still comparing repair part costs of a 20th gen model A ice to a literal model A ev, or however tfl put it. They aren’t going to give away battery packs right now that are the limiting factor to selling new cars. They don’t have enough excess production to just give them away cheap and their is almost no market for aftermarket since they’re under warranty.

As far as I know that's where gap coverage comes in and if they didn't offer it or you didn't take it that's what makes it difficult for you.

For all the other cases where street value is higher than Nada/Kbb bullshit books values, all it takes is to find examples for sale for the actual street value in your area to win the argument.

It becomes more difficult in niche cars and rare cars but that's what agreed value is for and that's what I have on my car. There are less than 500 of them in the states and they are all vastly different. Agreed value takes any argument out of the equation.

Right. Their job is to make you whole. Either by compensating financially or replacing the item with another like item once mutually agreed on either.

Again, if you don't like their math some agencies are open to agreed values. I use state farm.

It's actually a better deal because my value or the vehicle doesn't go down and payments don't go up vs regular policy where payments stay same but value they will pay you out for your car gets smaller and smaller every year.

That's not how permanent magnet motors work, but yes we're apples and oranges all day everyday, pull up a seat and join us.

We've used a Grizzl-E charger for the past year, Canadian made and a good reputation for durability. Ours has been problem free.

Thanks - those seem like no-brainers for 32-40a "residential" chargers unless you want to go fast and get something like a Ford Lightning or Lucid at home chargers with a 100 amp hookup. I still might just end up going with two of them on a sub-panel but want to weigh options.

Right, which means the total premium has no real relevance compared to the difference. Only $240 more a year to go from a beat up Taco to a truck worth over $100k now is trivial and indicates there is no serious EV "premium" when it comes to insurance vs an ICE vehicle.

We went from a 2018 Rav4 to the wifes then 2020 Bolt ev and the insurance was basically the same, although when i went from a 17 GLI to the ridgeline it went up like $20 a month

If you are going to have two chargers, then look into getting a pair that can load balance.

Have any of you looked into level 3 chargers for home use? I know it is a bit of an extreme but I am curious about it and figured maybe one of you checked into it.

From what I have seen there doesn't seem to be anyone manufacturing a level 3 charger that is suitable for home use. The ones I have found are all geared towards fleet, commercial (work), retail or large charging station use.

Another thing that I may have missed a good solution for is if one of these Level 2 chargers is installed outside in say a parking lot at a group of townhouses what prevents other people from using them? Is there some type of card access needed? How weather proof are these level 2 chargers? I don't have an electric vehicle yet but the thought intrigues me and the parking lot at my townhouse is at the end of the row of units so my vehicles are nowhere near my unit with no way to effectively run a cable from my unit to the parking lot. The charger would need to be installed at one of my parking spaces.
