Tesla doors handles are unique, and fragile I'm told. Too complex. I suggested dumping hot water on it but a quick internet search showed that would be disastrous for the handles.

No changing tires in ev's. They don't usually carry spares. In fact that same ionic5 got a flat tire a few months ago and had to spend a week in the shop waiting for it's unique tire to be delivered and the car reprogrammed for it. Times are changing.

Still not seeing any EV specific problems in any of this examples. Even the guy who couldn't charge could have planned for the storm and not have had a depleted battery. It's like not having gas for generator.

My Rivian has a full sized spare.

Drove to work and back yesterday in the relative cold. 26% use each way vs normally 20-23% in the warm. Not drastically different.

I recall once, warming a door handle with an extension cord and hair drier, worked, but took a long time

76 miles each way, and 1200 feet of elevation change.

Figured I'd be screwing myself on the way back once a modded and loud as fuck STI got on Rt.2 with me, but even after that and running heated seat the whole way I only saw 26%. On the way there is was 23% (all downhill to Boston).

Been a concern of mine too. But the Rivian app lets you turn on HVAC, heated seats, heated wheel, etc remotely. And the door handles are warm to the touch often, not sure if they are heated? Either way, you can manually press them to get them out even if they are iced over.

I'm thinking of picking up a cheap hairdryer to keep in the truck in case the charge port door is ever frozen. Already have an extension cord and outlets....

A thermos of warm water will thaw much faster than any air heater.

This is only for times away from home when you may not have access to warm water. It lives in a heated garage normally.

Already have one. That'll do. That on Low would take care of it easy.

Talking about the no new ICE sales in CA after 2035 the other day. How soon and how far do you think that'll get kicked out?

I was under the impression Volvo is switching completely to EV, no ICE. Maybe next year?

Lambo says they will pull out of the us market by 2028 due to emissions restrictions.

Well... euro is on the same train sooooo.

How do we do this without nuke plants and large infrastructure upgrades?

I think the real question is "how do we stop catastrophic climate change from continuing and worsening"?

Grid upgrades need to happen even before mass adoption of EV's.

Mass adoption of solar should help, and a shift in thinking about where/when charging should take place.

Employers will soon see that requiring employees to commute means being able to offer perks such as free charging at work. Since most employees are daytime workers, workplace solar arrays/roofs/parking garages will become the norm.

Grid upgrades have to happen regardless. If it happens to support mass EV use, win/win.

To be clear, I agree but if one happens without the other both fail and there's no plan for the latter

Exactly, moving away from fossil fuels is great on many levels. Doing so on our existing infrastructure is impossible. Since Biden is such a damn commie you'd figure he'd make a huge socialist bill to build up our grid and supply.

It's like Field of Dreams, except mandate it and will it magically happen.

We'll see what movie magic looks like in real life. There's already lots of whining about the electric bills since the rate increase. That's just the tip of the iceberg.
