Drove to work and back yesterday in the relative cold. 26% use each way vs normally 20-23% in the warm. Not drastically different.

Ive been reading BAD stuff about range in cold weather, thoughts?

i would imagine as batteries degrade over the years the amount of loss due to cold weather will increase on an older battery vs a newer battery?

I think the real question is "how do we stop catastrophic climate change from continuing and worsening"?

Tesla doors handles are unique, and fragile I'm told. Too complex. I suggested dumping hot water on it but a quick internet search showed that would be disastrous for the handles.

tesla created an issue that didn't have to exist with those door handles...stupid, unnecessary and not practical design...but lets make it fancy because cool factor and because we can get more maintenance work out of consumers...why is there not a setting to default the door handles to stay out in cold weather or all the time?

lol...i never watch the news and i've never said climate change is not real or not manmade...haven't done a ton of research to decide either way...the topic is very complicated and political...and as we have seen with covid science isn't science anymore when politics are involved...not against EVs but i don't think putting ALL our eggs in the EV basket is a good idea

In other news, been having to get in/out of the passenger side for the last two weeks from the broken/temp repaired door latch cable.

Tech just got here (nice guy, been here before, big 2nd gen Taco guy like I was), tries the outside handle. No open. Reaches inside, pulls on the inside handle, door opens right up. WHAT THE ACTUAL FUCK, I'VE BEEN PULLING ON THAT THING FOR TWO FUCKING WEEKS

personally i'd like to see more effort put into carbon capture but i think there is a scaling problem there...i'd like to see the kid that is doing the ocean cleanup project work on that next cause he seems to be doing a good job

To a degree, yeah. Especially if a solution is a net positive for a society at the price of minor inconvenience at worst for some, or no direct negative effect at all in other cases.

Pretty tired of statements such as "welfare system is broken due to XX abuse", "gun laws don't work", "illegal immigration is bad", "common core sucks" etc without offering anything constructive as an alternative.

In your example case the alternative was pretty obvious an easy, but people pushed back against it pretty hard to the point of taking up arms and killing fellow Americans over...

It's also a completely different situation from the pacific garbage patch cleanup. It's not like we have large sticky clouds of CO2 sitting there easily scooped up floating on the top 6' of the ocean. It's molecules in the air at a ratio of 420 (currently) parts per MILLION nearly evenly dispersed among the entire globe.

Think of it this way:

What is easier to do?

Create a system that captures the heat lost from your house, turns it back into fuel, and is then able to be used again as heat, all for an affordable price?

OR

Use less heat. Insulate better.

We don't need to reinvent the wheel, we just need to use it more efficiently.

One of the things that stood out to me is that just one big volcanic eruption could cool the planet by 4 degrees, way more drastic then the warming everyone has been freaking out about. Hard to blame that one on humans.
