That's the route I've taken at the moment, my Jeep is a Plug in Hybrid. It's the go to for short trips that can be done on batt (27mi or so) like grocery runs, trips to the hardware store, etc. It's also the cargo hauler, and in the winter the one vehicle that has a chance of getting out of road when it gets real bad. For long trips that don't need 4WD or towing, we use my wife's Kia that'll get 50mpg+ without hybrid tech or even a start/stop setup. For what her car cost, and her driving needs it can't go full EV and the massive upcharge to go PHEV doesn't make any sense yet. We're as electrified as we can get at the moment.

Also had a solar eval, our roof is facing the right direction but just doesn't get enough consistent sun to be worthwhile with our current level of power usage. Gotta do some heavy tree cutting and see if we can dial back our usage a decent chunk to improve the numbers.

Sweet truck Clayton. Reading your posts gives the feels of wishing I'd had the forethought to pre-order these things. At the time I thought you were fucking daft. I was wrong, quite wrong.

Got a short test drive in an F150 Lightning the other day courtesy of another smarter-than-I. Sweet baby geebuz! Quite likely the fastest thing this potato has ever driven. Found the acceleration disorienting to the point where we were doing 30 afterwards and it felt like 50. Advise trying this junk out on rural back roads. Owner reports being able to dust almost anything leaving a stop light even with a ~7500lbs travel trailer attached! It is quite a beast. I was too overwhelmed by the acceleration to notice anything else about handling or such. Although he had it set for one pedal driving which is neat-o.

My kid sister just took delivery of her Model Y. I haven't seen it yet, but she keeps telling me it is all that and the box of crackers. I haven't figured out how the hell she is charging it yet as she is an urbanite renter.

Wife is on the warpath for an EV. I keep running numbers and it is still a hard sell, even at $5/gal as we just don't drive that much anymore. Seems likely we'll just part ways with the crusty-trusty (long since paid for) corolla and go for a small hatchback. Likely a Leaf. My brother-in-law bought one and we like it. Class I hitch available from e-trailer, so I'm cool. I'm treating this one like an appliance purchase; no emotion in the game. Damn shame as I will miss having a manual transmission in the stable.

If you figure I can charge approx 27mi of range on a lowly L1 charger overnight, with something that isn't exactly efficient, I'd expect you could do quite a bit with even a low amp L2 charger and a dedicated, more efficient EV.

I use my portable L2 charger away from home all the time.

If I'm on a 15 amp outlet, it'll get me 6 % of range in 5 hours at 10 amps. That's slow, but it's a giant battery with an inefficient EV (compared to smaller ones).

If I'm on a 20 amp outlet, more.

If I use the NEMA 14-50, I'm pulling 32 amps at 230v. My home wall charger is 48 amps at 230v. Still plenty to fill it up overnight.

I would not buy a leaf, if your going to get an inexpensive ev get the chevy bolt. It will actually go 275 miles on a charge. Plus with the recall going on, GM is replacing battery packs on every single one.

We charge over night on an Lv1 and it can put 45-60 miles into it overnight.

My coworker who returned the Lightning to fix quality issues, picked it up again and attempted to drive from Shrewsbury to Dorchester, and it didn’t make it and had to be towed.

Also said charging it overnight only nets him 8 miles an hour, not sure what kinda charging he’s using.

They’re testing the battery cell now apparently.

The route from where I live in Maine to Rumney, NH is a pretty rural stretch towing a 4k lbs trailer...

I DID however see my first Rivian in the wild. Glad I finally got to see one. Didnt get much of a view, passed us in oncoming traffic at speed. Ironically, it was towing too.

I like the tfl channel. They were doing video on Alaska with gas and ev trucks and one of the locals says that won’t work here. And his rebutle is yea right now it’s not perfect but the gas f150 we have is like gen 18 of the model a and the ev f150 is literally a model a for ev pickup. Something like that.
