If you run into a wall with a helmet on, you still ran into a wall.
It would be fun. However, the last time it was run there were very few teams that signed up and it didn't work out that well for the track. Gather together 20-25 teams of riders and I think that we may be able to convince them to do it.
They are going away because they are so lightly attended. Most guys in this economy simply cant afford to take Thursdays off before a race weekend. I saw several days with 10 guys or less there....that barely pays for the Ambulances. Next season there will be a couple...but not many. Penguin will have practice every Friday, plus we will have an afternoon test session Thursday before the classic that is open to everyone (not limited as it was this year). There will also be a season package deal that will make these practices pretty affordable - available starting in December.
More news to come soon.

USCRA will most likely be having the "Big Fish Small Pond" endurance race again next year. I'll need to see what the schedule is for next year, but we can try to shoot for Labor Day. I got Bob Coy to agree to honor LRRS licenses for this event, all that's required is an AMA membership.
I'll keep you posted on this.

A monetary commitment from a team captain by a certain date. Once the pre-determined number of teams has been satisfied the endurance race is held on a given date, perhaps toward the end of the season.
If X number of teams are not entered by X date, the monies are then refunded to the team captains and we try again the following season.
That format is, in no way that I can see, money "lost" by the track.
Good idea. I'll be sure to propose that one.
Keep things rolling in....I just got a number of good suggestions regarding points structure, class combinations and general scheduling.
It also looks likely that the Rookie Race is going to move back to Saturday for 2012.

save me from reading the whole thing. has any mentioned:
Is there a way to print out the results Practice/Race with lap times similar to the practice sheets?
You can do a down load to Excel but there is no finish time so you can not calculate the difference between riders.
The rider
Lap times
Position during the lap
Finish time = Distance between riders.
Temperature at time of event.
I do see a SPLIT feature on the Excel Down load..... Hint Hint.....
Am I missing anything else?

I was glad to see a bunch of faces at the banquet. I thought the food was actually very good, and having the legend car guys was pretty unobtrusive (only taking up about 15 minutes of the whole evening).
Any feedback for anyone? The track is running the banquet 100% now, which has actually be a bit of a relief for those people (like Cathy Curtin, Steve Aspland & crew) who used to spend countless hours putting it together. However, I'd still like to be bure that everyone has the best evening possible and can pass on any feedback to the powers that be.....
In the meantime, we'll get ready to go to Florida December 2nd...should be fun.
I think it went pretty well. The legends awards was a nice time for a pee break and trip to the bar, and it went pretty smoothly else wise.

Eric,
Speaking for myself, I had a great time!I thought the food was pretty good, although the lack of a vegitarian option bummed out my girlfriend, who had to ask the wait staff if something could be whipped together for her... but that's my fault for dating a dirty hippy.
In other banquet news, I have a feeling you're going to get some significant backlash from the Amateurs, for at least two reasons that I can think of off the top of my head...
First, it sounds like the criteria for the Rookie Achievement Award need to be less subjective and more clearly written in stone. I don't mean to take anything away from the winner, but there were an awful lot of confused looks and talking amongst the crowd when the winner was announced. I'll just say it wasn't exactly a positive reaction.
Second, and I think more importantly, there was definitely a mis-communication in regards to Amateur recognition and the extent of that recognition. The fact that only select Amateur classes would be eligible for an Achievment Award wasn't clearly communicated and as a result, a lot of people were expecting that all AM Class winners would be recognized in some fashion.
What I really found interesting was that that a lot of the Amateurs who WERE recognized were NOT in attendance... and a lot of people who WEREN'T recognized, WERE in attendance. There were a good number of racers there, including an entire table of people who traveled quite a ways for the evening, that attended the banquet for the sole purpose of seeing one of their friends or teammates recieve an award. That never happened because it wasn't one of the selected classes. Needless to say, their long ride home wasn't as happy as they were expecting.
The unexpected result was that some people felt that the whole Amateur Recognition thing was more of a "ploy" to fill seats rather than recognized Amateurs for their riding. Now I'm sure that's not the case, but you can see how it could be interpreted that way...
My personal recommendations:
Clarify the Rookie Achievement Award criteria. Make it less subjective and post it in the rulebook for all to see. Almost all of the awards handed out weren't surprises as they were based on points. This shouldn't be any more of a surprise than Championship standings.
Expand Amateur Achievement recognition to all Amateur classes. In my opinion, the #1 rider from ALL AM classes should be recognized, paying class or not.

I did not attend the banquet for personal reasons but simply put, if there is going to be recognition for particular classes or groups it should be clearly stated prior to the beginning of the season rather than 1/2 way through it and "kinda sorta" announced.
Etch it in stone so there are zero questions as to who or what is being recognized.
As far as ROTY, I haven't a clue who got it but let's be serious here....if Novices aren't supposed to be entering certain races then why are the signups allowed through the my.nhms? What that leaves is friends protesting friends rather than LRRS staff catching this stuff or eliminating the option during sign up altogether.
Which leads me to my next question, who got ROTY?
The kid who's there with his pops and the ultra clean white pit shirts. I think.

To Pete's point...he's talking about the table my RSP Racing teammates and I reserved, only after we got an email stating that "In addition to the expert classes, an Amateur Achievement award will be rewarded along with recognizing the entire amateur class."
We took this, as I think most did, to mean that the class points winners from each AM class would be recognized. Since one of our own finished the season with the points lead in AM LWSS, we reserved a table, and many changed their weekend plans in order to attend and show him support. Every one of us who did make it came from CT(ranging from a 3-4 hour drive).
In past discussions, I've actually been one of the unpopular few who said maybe LRRS shouldn't recognize amateur and novice "championships." However, once the decision is made to "recognize the entire amateur class" and word is spread to that effect, it seems a bit unfair to bring up 5 class winners, without clearly stating which classes would be recognized.
I actually didn't attend this year's banquet, as I had a schedule conflict I couldn't break, and I'll likely still attend next year, but speaking with some of the guys Saturday night makes me think I won't be sitting at an RSP Racing table next year...because I'll be the only one going.
