Oh I'm still here, im just not responsible for jacks hit right now.
Except making coffee, and opening and closing the doors for the duty crew.
I haven't felt so relaxed in a while.

At work as well, its whiteout conditions out there.
Have a gas can in thr truck and im gonna rip on the sled when I get home.
Got a call from my towns emergency manager person last night. Apparently the state wide driving ban wasn't enough. They enacted a town wide driving ban too.
Double super secret probation!
Maybe next time they will enact it by county. People in western ma didn't get a lot.

Here's a scenario; No driving ban enacted. Just light fluffy snow falling, nothing that could knock down trees, you're home drinkin brews and watching deflated football recaps. All of a sudden the power goes out, because some ding-dong drove into a pole. Now you gotta drag out the generator in sideways-blowing snow. Are the bans still bad?
Yeah, awesome idea. Work at McDonald's? No problem. Run a 24/7 manufacturing facility that produces thousands of dollars a day in parts? Stay home. Live in Western MA where they got modest snowfall? Ditto.
Last year's driving ban cost us $30,000 and I laid a guy off as a result. In the morning all the roads were clear, our employees live nearby, and all our company cars have winter tires.
Our NH facility is still running. Hmm, maybe I should move even more jobs there?

This.
How is this different than any other day. Those same morons who shouldn't be out on the road in the snow are out on the road in the dry. How about we focus on actually training people to handle motor vehicles instead of constantly forcing cars to have more and more technology to compensate for idiots. That way we wouldn't need these fucked up travel bans in the first place.

Question from Press: "Why not limit travel officially to emergency vehicles?"
Hassan: "Granite staters exhibit and practice common sense and I think it's important that we continue to ask people to make their own determinations, especially because enforcing the travel ban can be its own distraction and its own drain on resources. That being said: For all business owners out there who have told employees that you want them to come in, I hope that you will re-evaluate the position. We've closed state government, which is a highly unusual step for us to do. Only personnel who are essential to storm response, to law enforcement, and to taking care of people in our health facilities are being called in and I would expect that as many private employers have done in this storm that private businesses take the same steps. Many private businesses have closed and we'd ask them to continue to do that. As we see people who are venturing out on .the roads are having a high rate of accidents or going off the road, so it's really not safe for traffic"

So true.
Yes. It's a horrible precedent to set. You've lowered the bar for what constitutes an "emergency" to a fucking snowstorm.
Shit happens, even when it's not snowing.
Really Chip. If wading through a sea of morons, helping them in spite of themselves isn't your bag. Then you are totally in the wrong business!
Honest question; what's stopping you? You can give your employees a virtual 5% raise on day-1.

I'm looking at 20" here is western RI, and still coming down pretty good. My town must be honoring the driving ban as well, not a single pass with a plow yet!
Yamaha
Cant tell here, its drifting too bad
We've got about 8" of snow here in Pittsfield (mid-lower NH, a few miles east of Concord). Some winds, snowfall light but steady. It wouldn't be terribly unsafe to go out somewhere if we had to, but we're happy to be "stuck" at home. My consulting client closed all the facilities for today. Don't know about tomorrow yet; I'll call in this evening to find out.
Yes.
I'm not much of a fan of Hassan, but she's got this one pretty much right.

great quote from hassan
I got done plowing almost two hours ago. Driveway is still clear with a marginal dusting on the areas I hit. Lot of snow blowing around, very little falling.

whiteout here
Just spent a few hours behind the snow thrower. While many drifts were going over the top of the [21"] bucket, I'd estimate we have 18". Still snowing.

Watching the radar it looks like you poor pricks from the quabbin to the ny state line ain't getting shit. I have plenty of white junk to lend. And a pissy attitude to go with it.

All told, I'd estimate about 10 inches here in Keene. Hard to tell with all the drifts though.
