the whining started a couple pages ago with the "they said i cant drive" bullshit.
meanwhile my wifes boss is telling her she HAS to drive when she doesnt want to.
it hypocrisy. "you" want people to use common sense and not drive when they shouldnt but dont want the gov't to step in to tell them so. at the same time "you" are upset that your bosses/clients/jobs closed business BECAUSE they used common sense and shut down/cancelled.

No driving ban in Maine, but I was literally breaking trail for 60% of my ride home. Im glad I have a truck with a lift and 35's because it was deep.
By far the most snow I've ever seen on a fairly main road. It was just coming down too fast for the plows to keep up.

dont start that shit with me. im as much for less government babysitting and rules as you, but facts are facts. DRIVING IS NOT A RIGHT. i have the 10 or so license revocations to prove it.
i also dont label myself as an athiest, but notice i put quotes around "god". to imply that if you have a belief in some supernatural being then he/she/it is ,by some nature, a "god". if not then you at least understand the generic meaning of it

I'm sorry that your wife's boss is an asshole. I can't fix that and it is unlikely that the governor will be able to.
I don't have a problem with the government saying "it would be a good idea to not go out." The government saying "Businesses, please, unless you are essential, close for the day and let your employees stay home." No That is different than saying "If you go out you will be prosecuted." They are different.
Revocation of a right is not proof that it isn't a right. Revocation of rights, with due process, is necessary in some cases.
The courts, in many cases, have stated that driving is a right.
The use of the highways for the purpose of travel and transportation is not a mere privilege, but a common and fundamental Right of which the public and the individual cannot be rightfully deprived." - Chicago Motor Coach vs. Chicago, 169 NE 22; Ligare vs. Chicago, 28 NE 934; Boon vs. Clark, 214 SSW 607; 25 Am. Jur. ( 1y`) Highways Sect. 163."The right of a citizen to travel upon the public highways and to transport his property thereon in the ordinary course of life and business is a common right which he has under his right to enjoy life and liberty, to acquire and possess property, and to pursue happiness and safety. It includes the right in so doing to use the ordinary and usual conveyances of the day; and under the existing modes of travel includes the right to drive a horse-drawn carriage or wagon thereon, or to operate an automobile thereon, for the usual and ordinary purposes of life and business. It is not a mere privilege, like the privilege of moving a house in the street, operating a business stand in the street, or transporting persons or property for hire along the street, which a city may permit or prohibit at will." Thompson vs. Smith, 154 S.E. 579 at 583."The right of a citizen to travel upon the public highways and to transport his property thereon, by horse-drawn carriage, wagon, or automobile is not a mere privilege which may be permitted or prohibited at will, but a common right which he has under his right to life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness." Slusher v. Safety Coach Transit Co., 229 Ky 731, 17 SW2d 1012."The right of the citizen to drive on the public street with freedom from police interference, unless he is engaged in suspicious conduct associated in some manner with criminality is a fundamental constitutional right which must be protected by the courts." People v. Horton 14 Cal. App. 3rd 667 (1971)
Essential people were allowed to drive. In the long list of exemptions to the driving ban, most were long worded specific descriptions of who can drive in the ban. Also among this extensive list:
"News media."
There you have it. Safety.
News media NEED to be on scene during a blizzard. They can't report from the studio. Just like hospital workers need to take care of sick people or Chip needs to save idiots who drove too close to raging waters.

i agree that the wording is different and in a world not filled with idiots, it would be effective. propose the (possible) empty threat of prosecution and people think twice..."do i really need to go get ice cream?". if you have a legit reason to be out, then go. no one is going to ticket you for checking on your elderly parents or getting gas for your generator/snowblower and if they do you fight it in court.
there is no due process in license revocation. you get a letter that says "you lose".
my interpretation of that says you have the right to use the highway in your car. which im sure is very true. i mean you pay taxes that maintain that roadway. so you can drive all over those roads until your hearts content. problem is, you need a license to drive (legally) and since your drivers license is NOT A RIGHT that in turn proves that driving IS NOT A RIGHT.
you earn the right to drive on those roads by earning the privilege of driving.
the closest one to me is closed during the winter. /lame
im not gonna argue that the media should have any special treatment but really who cares. your talking about maybe 25 vehicles across the whole state.

I guess the government just wants only essential personnel to have all the fun.

<rolleyes> So arguing that it was the right thing to do somehow isn't being for it? Sheesh. (And also note that the "hot coffee" lawsuit that everyone loves to cite as the prime example of frivolous lawsuits actually did have merit. Look it up sometime.)
I do. I can't afford to fight every battle on every subject all at the same time, so I have to pick my battles based on importance, relevance, and risk. That's one I'll deal with later, if I think I can make a difference. Until then, the best I can do is speak up about what is wrong, and maybe others will take it up, or opinion in general will shift some.
Wow. That's a whole bunch of concepts to be completely unclear on, in just a couple of sentences. I applaud your efficiency.

nope. then again our state isnt widely known for having horrible drivers either, unlike other states *cough* Massachusetts *cough*
i know the case. i stand by my belief that it was asinine.
oh! so when you get some free time youll go argue that its your inalienable right to drive a car on public roadways and you dont need the gov'ts permission to do so and you will refuse to abide their tyrannical laws any longer and drive your vehicle when and how ever you desire without a license. let me know when and where youre going to do that...id like to watch.
im glad to hear that i was efficient in proving your lack of reading comprehension. i saw no where in any of the quotes listed that driving is a right. lets look...
nope. The use of the highways for the purpose of travel and transportation is not a mere privilege, but a common and fundamental Right of which the public and the individual cannot be rightfully deprived."
nope"The right of a citizen to travel upon the public highways and to transport his property thereon in the ordinary course of life and business is a common right...
nope"The right of a citizen to travel upon the public highways and to transport his property thereon...
aaand no."The right of the citizen to drive on the public street with freedom from police interference,...
all of them say the same thing. you have the right to use the roads. i interpret that to mean: you can use a car on them if you are legally allowed to drive or posses a drivers license. you must be aware that you require a drivers license to drive on the road since you posses one, just like you posses a motorcycle license because you know that it is required for you to legally ride a motorcycle on said roads.
normally your points are difficult to argue even if i disagree with you, but this time you are just simply wrong. you may FEEL its you right to drive (which would mean you have the mentality of a 16 year old and i know that isnt true) but its not.
