The warning was put out for this winter and there aren't a lot of EVs out there yet. Moving forward there are currently plans to remove capacity faster then there are concrete ones to replace it; just hope and dreams. It's not really a stretch to think these types of warnings will become more frequent.
This was set in motion before EVs were a big part of the equation. They aren't the problem, but they aren't gonna help either.
Still not clear on how you think removing ICE vehicles equates to more power generation. It's not a linear relationship.

So projected increase from solar doesn't even cover the increase projected for EVs and heat pumps while losing capacity from traditional plant retiements. Problems I see there are we haven't actually met projections for increasing renewables yet so we could be woefully deficient just from the solar aspect, let alone the other renewable sources. How long has something like Cape Wind been trying to come online now, 15-20 years? Yeah things are looking great.
The above doesn't take.into account the high percentage of power from just two nuke plants here. Plants that also are nearing the end of their life...

I fail to see how this is related to the army of EV's you fear that are not yet on the road. You're quote above directly states that expected EV demand (5,934 GWh) will be more than made up for by expected PV generation (7,692 GWh) by 2031.
For fuel stores this year, this is related to the war in Ukraine and the drop in russian gas/oil to the world supply. But if you want more diesel trucks on the road buying diesel, driving up demand, which would increase those costs for electricity, then point proven I guess?

Actually add the EVs into the heat pump numbers and it goes negative. Not to mention the fact the track record for bringing renewables online as planned isn't exactly stellar.
But you're correct, the issue this year is fuel. That we agree on. That was my original comment to PurplePackage who claims everything is fine with the grid, except of course the fuel required to power it. So physically yes, the grid is fine. Practically speaking, there are still issues, whether it be this winter or in the future.

I was eavesdropping on a table of geriatrics talking about Ev's over the summer "California couldn't keep up with charging them. I don't have time to sit for 2 hours at a charger every day. They only go 75 miles on a charge." They looked like they don't travel 75 miles in a year, let alone a day. People are dumb.

My 70 year old dad, basically. Why he doesn't like electric cars: "They can only go 250 miles or so before needing a charge!"
The last time he went anywhere near a 250 mile trip was to Maple Grove Raceway Park 4 years ago. Otherwise he goes no more than 10 miles in any given direction from his house, and even that's a rarity.
I wish they'd at least be honest with themselves and everyone else and admit that change scares them. But boomers are by and large completely lacking in any type of self awareness or humility.
The irony is, introduce the internet or texting to a boomer, and marvel as once they're over all the grumbling and ranting having to use a computer/smartphone, a week later they're suddenly emailing or texting you diatribes every day of the week.
