Let stupid be stupid. Rest of us have NO issue with cold weather in EV’s.

little bit of column A and B: the cars take a huge hit, but if you have an EV some things arent as easy as having a gas car. public charging sucks. teslas network is the best, but its far form perfect.
with the tesla if you put in the gps that your going to a charger it will start to heat the battery. so that when you get to the charger the battery is at ideal temp for fast charging. I have fast charged last month when we were at great wolf lodge, and it was about 28 degrees i did not have enough time to heat the battery (it was a 4 min drive away) charger was empty as it was early in the morning. but you could watch the car trying to heat the battery, i think the max speed i got out that charger was like 95 kWh. which compared to our chevy bolts its lightyears faster than those ever got.
this.. people are fucking idiots.
To be fair, 28F with a short drive to get there, and 95 kWh input rate, at that point the charge rate is doing the heating and it's not really proper 'cold' out. Chicago went from above freezing to -9F over the course of the day, and is now hovering at 0F a couple days later... bit different scenario. I think people are in for a new learning curve where it's not like the good old days where as long as there is some fuel in the tank, if you can get it to turn over you're good.
My 4XE won't draw down the battery to keep itself 'ready' in cold temps, it'll only do that off a charger. Will the Tesla preemptively self heat in the cold if not on a charger, possibly resulting in much lower SOC than people anticipated?
I do appreciate the analysis of what the actual problem was with this Chicago situation. NESR is the best news source.![]()

is this just a problem with EVs parked in the weather, or does it include garaged EVs, say 55° or higher

This clip wrapped it up pretty well…I’m sure those abandoned teslas won’t hang around too long before the thieves get to them…another reason to not go electric…I believe Canada has been having similar problems…haven’t had temps that low around here in a while

Think it depends on the temperature of your garage
Edit: cool idea…

Oh, well, that's a bit of a key detail the original article failed to mention: The CHARGERS were down. So bit harder to blame the owners on this one.
Did you grit your teeth and try to look like Clint Fuckin' Eastwood?
Or did you lisp it all hangfisted like a fuckin' flower?
